Chapter 6
“Baby… Mommy will take care of you as long as I can. I’ll be your mom and dad, hmm? We’ll stay together for the rest of our lives…” Lilian’s smile widened as she kissed her son’s forehead. The moment she separated it from her, she was taken aback to see that she was only holding a doll.
Nuh…
Huh…?” She lifted her gaze and nearly fainted when she was confronted by the face of her husband, Jacob.
“You should’ve died! Die, you and your child!” Jacob furiously yelled at her and suddenly
stabbed her.
“N–No! My son!”
“Lilian!”
Lilian was panting as she opened her eyes. The IV drip almost came off her hand due to he sudden rise. She quickly scanned her surroundings, seemingly searching for the demon that had confronted her earlier, but she could no longer see it. Instead, she was greeted by
another face.
It was just a dream, but it feels so real.
“Hey, how are you feeling? Are you alright?”
She turned toward the person who had spoken, a frown creasing her forehead. It was cle: she still didn’t grasp what was going on.
“Dr. Martin? What are you doing… here…?” She spoke in fragments as she recalled what happened.
What she knew was that she had left the clinic after having an ultrasound. Why is she he in the hospital now and seemingly confined? What happened?
“Lilian, do you remember-”
She immediately flinched when Daniel touched her shoulder. She looked at him sharply.

was only then that she noticed the expression on his face, as if he was worried about something. She was about to speak when suddenly the door opened and a doctor she didn’t know walked in.
“Ms. Lewis, it’s good that you woke up, I’m Dr. Falcon. How are you feeling?” The doctor asked her before glancing at the record he was holding
Lilian didn’t know what to answer because she still couldn’t remember anything. She glanced at Daniel again, who was beside her. He was still watching her, as if he had something to say. Suddenly, the nightmare from earlier flashed through Lilian’s mind.
“Doc, how’s my baby? Did something happen? Is that why I’m here?”
At that question, Daniel and Dr. Falcon exchanged glances simultaneously, seemingly surprised by what she said. The doctor finally approached her and did something to her IV before turning to her.
“Don’t you remember anything?”
She frowned and remained quiet for a moment, trying to remember what happened after leaving Daniel’s consultation room–the last thing she could recall. But all it did was make
her head ache.
“This might help you remember what happened…” Daniel said and handed her her cellphone with a cracked screen.
“My men recovered that in the woods, Lil.”
Moreover, this only made her more confused.
Lilian stiffened in her seat. The trembling of her hand was clearly visible as she held her phone. She didn’t know why she suddenly felt anxious while opening her cell phone. When she opened it, the text exchange with Jacob immediately appeared before her. Lilian’s worl rumbles when a memory flashes in her mind.
It was as if a lightning bolt had struck, and everything that happened that night flashed through her memory, and she recalled everything in succession. She looked at her arms and gasped when she confirmed that all of it was true. She has many bruises, and some are still fresh. She dropped her cell phone and looked at her leg. Her heart sank even further when she saw the deep wounds running from his feet up to her thighs.

“N–no… No… This can’t be real. It was just a dream,” she reassured herself.
“Lilian, calm down

“N–No! That bastard… did this to me?!” She cried out, quickly turning to Dr. Falcon. “How… How about my baby? Is he okay? He’s fine, right? He wasn’t harmed, doc, right?”
The desperation in Lilian’s voice is visible while trying to hold back the flood of her tears. She knows her baby’s fine. She could still feel him inside her. She can still feel it’s fluttering
her stomach. She knew it was stronger than her, so she believed it was doing fine.
But when the doctor’s expression turned sympathetic, that’s when Lilian’s shoulders slumped. She bit her lower lip and shook her head slowly.
“P–please tell me he’s fine, doc…”
“I’m so sorry, Ms. Lewis, but your baby didn’t survive. He couldn’t handle the exhaustion caused by your body. You were so stressed. The child’s grip was weak, so he couldn’t hold on any longer…” Dr. Falcon explained to Lilian clearly.
In an instant, it felt like the entire room dimmed. Everything around her went silent. It was as if the space had suddenly closed in, shrinking and plunging into darkness. She looked back at Daniel. He was saying something but she couldn’t even hear it. She clutches her chest when her breathing becomes heavy.
“P–please, open the window. It’s too dark here. I… I can’t breathe. Open the window, Daniel!” She screamed and clutched Daniel’s shirt tightly, pleading desperately.
Lilian frowned. Suddenly, her heart started pounding loudly. One after another, the events of that night came rushing back to her memory again. What Ruby had done to her, the nea assault by her men. The escape. How she ran for her life that night. How she managed to flee to protect her unborn baby…
“Lilian… Lilian, hey, look at me.”
Finally, Lilian heard Daniel’s voice, but it wasn’t enough to calm her down.
“Your baby didn’t survive the suffering your body experienced, Lilian. I’m so sorry.” Dr. Falcon declared.

Lilian’s heart sank, and she was suddenly thrust into hell. It felt as if the heavens and earth had collided against her. It was like a massive bomb exploded inside her heart, crushing her entire world. It shattered her senses, her heart, and her soul. It tore apart her faith.
“N–no,” she whispers between her sobs and suddenly holds her tummy. “My baby! N–no!
He’s still here! I can still feel him!”
Lilian panicked. She no longer knew what was on her mind. She violently removed the needle from her hand and tried to get off the bed, so she quickly hugged Dr. Falcon.
“N–no, doc! T–This can’t be happening!” She yelled while sobbing. Her heart was pounding, and if she didn’t release the pain she was feeling, she felt like she might have a heart attack.
“Lilian!” Daniel hissed and immediately held her.
He quickly wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly. Even he didn’t know what to say. This is the first time he has seen Lilian in this situation. She’s always calm and always thinks carefully about her actions. But now it seems like she has completely lost herself.
“M–my baby…! You can’t do this to me! He’s all I have left! Please, bring him back to me! Please! I’ll do anything… Just bring him back to me, Daniel. Please… I can’t do this.”
