Chapter 14
Vincent’s POV
It’s been three days since the incident, and I was a mess. Mum was gone, Ava was arrested for attempted murder, and Kayla and her fiancé had returned to London.
I can’t believe what I did. What was I thinking? Leaving Kayla for a mundane.
I was pulled out of my thoughts by the ringing of the telephone on my office desk. I immediately picked up the receiver and placed it to my ear.
“Good morning, sir,” the person on the other side of the phone said.
“Good morning. What may be the problem? I asked, pinching my nose bridge and closing my eyes.
“I’m sorry to inform you, but your cargo from India has fallen into the sea and can
not be retrieved.

The moment those words reached
my
hearing, I dropped my hand from my nose to the desk with a thud as my eyes shot open.
“What? What do you mean by that?” I asked with rage boiling through me.
“I’m sorry, sir,” the person said once more before disconnecting the call.
I slammed the receiver so hard it bounced back. Well, I couldn’t care less. The situation at hand was much more dire.
That cargo caused me a fortune and a huge dent in my account. What was I going to do
now?
As I sat there wallowing in misery and thinking of ways to cover up for the loss, a knock came at the door.
I released a frustrated sigh and called for the person to come in. “Good day, sir,” my secretary, Anna, greeted.
“What do you want Anna?” I asked impatiently.

“Sir, Mr. Isaac just called and informed me that he was pulling out his investments.” She said hesitantly.
“What?!” I exclaimed as I slammed my fist on my desk and stood up.
Anna flinched and stepped back.
“Sir –” Anna was cut off by the sound of the telephone ringing.
I took the receiver from where it had bounced off and took the call.
“Good morning, Mr. Vincent, “the person greeted.
Trying to be as professional as possible, I gently replied. “Good morning. Who am I speaking with, please?” I asked.
“I am Mr. Mathias‘ secretary and I called to inform you that Mr. Mathias has decided to pull out his investments. “The woman said calmly.
It felt like the world stopped and came crashing down at my feet. I fell back on my

seat, devastated.
What was going on? How would the two main investors pull out unannounced and a cargo disappear? At this point, my company was already wrecked, and there was no saving it.
I was doomed.
I let go of the receiver, not caring where it fell and told Anna to get out of my office. Immediately, Anna stepped out of the office, I swung my hand across my desk, causing the items to fall to the floor, shattered.
Suddenly a knock came, and before I could respond, the person had already walked in.
Thinking it was Anna, I snapped.
“Didn’t I tell you to get the hell out?”
“Oh, did you know?” That voice caused me to turn back immediately.

boiled with rage.
I felt like squeezing the life out of her. She and her daughter were the cause of everything that was happening to me. A few seconds after our eyes clashed, she greeted us.
“Hello Vincent,” she said with a small smile.
Ava’s mother, who was allegedly ill and on the brink of death, stood in front of me with a smile and looked healthier than
ever.
This witch and her daughter were the ones who made me lose Kayla. “What do you want from me?” I said lowly, my voice laced with venom.
“Oh, nothing much, I just came to inform you that Ava is filing for divorce,” She said with a sly smile.
“She can go to hell for all I care, now please get out of my office I have more important. things to do than dealing with you and that

snake you call a daughter,” I said.
She just walked closer to me, her smile widening with each step. “But that’s not all I came to tell you.” She said when she was within arm’s length.
“Ava is demanding fifty percent of your property as settlement,” she said confidently.
“Are you mad or what? Fifty percent?” I asked, shocked at the exorbitant price she demanded.
“No, I just came to relay my daughter’s message.” Disgusted by the distance between us and also angered by the
bullshit, she was spewing, I pushed her away from me.
I didn’t think of the consequences.
I just knew that the next moment, my life was ruined by my actions.
Utterly ruined.
