Timothy looked at me as if I were crazy. He didn’t believe that I really wanted a divorce. He said “crazy woman” and turned back to the study.
William was also indignant. “Stop making a scene. Do you want to see this family fall apart? You are not going to stop it, are you? You are really sick.”
After he finished speaking, he turned around and went back to his room. Monica quickly followed him and said, “I told you that Betty’s menopause has been prolonged, but you didn’t believe it.”
Looking at the empty living room, I felt very calm.
I have worked hard for this family for most of my life, but my husband cheated on me, and my son sided with my husband’s
mistress.
They were cruel to me, so why should I cling to our cheap family bonds?
Without saying a word, I went back to my room, packed some clothes, and called my best friend Rosie Young after I went out.
After my parents passed away, I was glad that I still had such a friend as close as my family.

Rosic never married and ran a large law firm by herself. When she got old, she hired a professional manager. She planted flowers and vegetables at home and danced when she had time, enjoying a leisurely and comfortable life alone.
Learning what had happened to me, she took me to her home without saying a word.
“Timothy gave you a hard time again?”
As soon as we met, Rosie started to criticize Timothy. Although I was the same age as her, she was more enlightened than me.
But I was not in the mood to talk about that right now.
I got straight to the point. “Timothy cheated on me, and I want to divorce him.”
Rosie obviously didn’t expect me to tell her such explosive news. She stood up from the sofa in anger. “You said Timothy cheated on you?”

She had a weak heart, and I was afraid she would get too worked up, so I consoled her. “Yes, can your law firm take on this kind of case?”
Rosie nodded and said, “Of course, don’t worry. I will certainly help you with this. Do you have any evidence against him?”
I nodded slightly. “Yes.”
So I stayed at Rosie’s house.

That evening, I received a call from Monica.
Jason cried heartbreakingly on the phone and kept yelling for
Grandma.
Monica asked anxiously, “Betty, when will you come back? Jason keeps asking for Grandma.”

When I heard Jason crying, my heart tightened for a moment, and then I realized that they would think of me in this situation.
I hardened my heart and said, “Jason is your son. You should take care of him from now on.”
Monica was anxious and was about to speak, but William snatched her phone and said, “Mom, can you please stop it? Look at what time it is. We are all waiting for dinner at home. Just let it go after having a fight with Dad. Are you really getting a divorce?”
I sneered, “You thought of me at dinner time? Why didn’t you go to Wendy’s place for dinner? Also, it’s not a casual fight. I made it very clear today. Don’t contact me from now on. I don’t have a son like you.”

I was about to hang up the phone when I heard Timothy speak, “We can cook for ourselves or order takeout. Don’t say this to William. Just tell me whether you will be home tonight or not.”

should I go home? This is my home. I’m already drafting a divorce agreement. I’ll give it to you tomorrow afternoon at the latest. Please sign it then.”
Timothy was puzzled. “Betty, I believe I have treated you well over the past few decades. Now, William has started a family, and Jason has grown up. Why are you doing this?”
I laughed out loud, “You said you treated me well? Heh.”
I really found it ridiculous.
When Timothy heard me laugh, he softened his tone for the first time. “Honey, we’ve been married for decades. Why can’t we talk it out peacefully? Why do you have to make such a fuss? If you divorce me with no job, how are you going to survive? Who will support you in the future?”
I laughed enough and wiped the tears from my eyes, “None of your business. Anyway, I don’t need you and William to support me. I have something else to do, so I gotta go. Just wait for the divorce agreement at home.”
