William came in and said, “So what if Dad doesn’t sign it, Mom? Are you going to hound him to death?”
What a filial son!
I said without even turning my head, “Yes, I will. What can you do about it?”
William’s face turned red with anger. “If you get a divorce at your age, what will people think of our family? Did you ask for my opinion before getting a divorce? Jason needs someone to take care of him. Can you bear to leave him alone?”
I said nonchalantly, “Of course, I can. Since you don’t want me to be part of your family, why can’t I bear to leave you?”
William asked anxiously, “When did we say we didn’t want you to be part of our family?”
I laughed and said, “When you sided with Wendy, you already didn’t want me to be your mom. It doesn’t matter who takes care of Jason. It doesn’t matter who Jason calls Grandma. Just. recognize Wendy as your mom.”
William was so furious that he was shaking all over. “What are you talking about? What do you mean I want Wendy to be my mom? When did I take sides? Wendy and Dad were college classmates, and they both work in the hospital now. Nothing

I sneered, “I’m sensitive? Why don’t you ask your dad and Wendy what they did in the car?”
Timothy’s face changed. “Betty, why are you telling William this?”
I ignored his words and continued, “The dashcam recorded it. The police have a backup. Since you were born, your dad has never slept with me to be loyal to Wendy. I was busy taking care of the child and your grandma at home so that I became haggard, while he was hooking up with Wendy outside.”

“That’s enough!” Embarrassed, Timothy interrupted me coldly, “I agree to divorce.”
William’s eyes widened in astonishment. Learning the whole story suddenly, he didn’t know what to do.
“Dad, Mom, do you really want a divorce?”
As he finished speaking, Timothy and I fell silent.
Only we knew that now that things had come to this, we had to divorce.
After signing the divorce agreement, I didn’t look at Timothy’s distraught eyes, William’s and Monica’s reluctant expressions, or Jason’s tearful face.

After the divorce, I met Wendy, who was upset that I made Timothy leave our marriage with nothing. I told her, “Why do you think Timothy chose me over you? If he loves you so much, why didn’t he divorce me earlier? Do you think he keeps treating you as his mistress because he loves you?
“He didn’t divorce me because he got everything from my parents. Without my parents, he wouldn’t have made his accomplishments. So do you get it?
“Wendy, you are just his friend of benefits over the past 40 years.”
I devastated her emotionally.
