Chapter 13 Voice Message
As Adrian listened to the voice message, another notification popped up.
This time, it was Nora’s soft, sweet voice saying, “Travis, good night.

For a brief moment, Adrian’s gaze softened, but it quickly turned icy, a chilling coldness emanating from him.
The next day was a weekend.
Travis woke up early, his thoughts consumed by the photos saved in his album.
On weekends, he and Marty were allowed to use their phones for an hour.
Adrian handed him his phone.
Unbeknownst to Travis. Adrian had already transferred the photos to his device the night before.
Eager to call Nora, Travis searched for Shiloh’s contact but couldn’t find it..
Disheartened but hesitant to say anything directly, he asked cautiously, “Dad, can friends just disappear from your phone?”
Adrian didn’t mention the incident with the wrong phone. Instead, he simply replied, “Sometimes, there can be glitches. Contacts might disappear.”
As for Shiloh’s contact on his private phone, Adrian chose to ignore it entirely.
-Back at the Qadena Group, Adrian had just finished a task when his phone buzzed.
A glance at the screen showed it was the same account.
When he answered the video call, Nora’s adorable face appeared on the screen, her bright eyes lighting up as she called out, “Travis!”
But the moment she saw Adrian’s face, her smile vanished. With a loud thud, she tossed the phone away.
The device landed in the corner of the sofa, its camera still capturing the image of Shiloh approaching,
curious.
“What’s wrong. Nora? Didn’t Travis answer?” Shiloh asked.
Nora shook her head, hugging Shiloh’s leg tightly.
“Scary,” she whispered.
Shiloh picked her up, comforting her until she smiled again. After playing with her for a while, she finally turned her attention to the phone.
The call had lasted ten minutes and had only just disconnected moments before Shiloh picked it up.
After a moment of thought, she sent a message.
There was no reply for a long time.

When it was time for her afternoon nap, Shiloh focused on coaxing her daughter.
Adrian, still staring at the chat screen, saw her message come through.
It was a photo of Nora playing with her toys.

captured Shiloh’s slender fingers holding the phone,
Adrian’s expression hardened as he exited the chat without replying.
The next morning. Nora decided to call Travis again, as he had taught her before he left.
But once again, when the call connected, Adrian’s face appeared on the screen.
Pouting. Nora stared at him, clearly displeased. “I want Travis,” she demanded.
As so
soon as he finished speaking, the video call was immediately hung up by Nora.
On the third day, in the evening, Nora was freshly bathed and dressed in light blue pajamas.
Snuggled on her bed, she placed the phone on her pillow and tried calling Travis once more..
Yet again. Adrian’s face greeted her.
Frowning. Nora tapped the screen with her chubby fingers, her frustration growing.
“Change! Change to Travis!”
Adrian, seated in his study, had grown accustomed to these sporadic video calls. Looking at the freshly bathed Nora with her fluffy hair, he couldn’t help but find her endearing.
“Travis is doing his homework,” he explained.
Unconvinced, Nora took the phone to find her mother.
To Nora, Shiloh could fix anything. Surely, Mommy could “change” the bad man and bring Travis back.
She knocked on the bathroom door. “Mommy, Travis!”
Shiloh, in the middle of washing her hair, called out, “Nora, be good. I’m taking a bath. You can talk to
Travis.
When Nora got clingy, not even Shiloh’s bath time was sacred.
To manage this, Shiloh had placed a small chair by the bathroom door, so she could respond to Nora when needed.
Now seated on her little deer–themed chair, Nora stared at Adrian on the screen, her big eyes filled with
confusion
“I want to see Travis,” she repeated insistently.
“Travis, Travis, I want to see Travis!” Nora shouted.

Hearing her repeated requests, Adrian felt an inexplicable emotion stirring within him. Eventually, he sighed and relented.
“Fine. You can see Travis tomorrow,” Shiloh said.
Despite her young age, Nora was sharp. The moment Adrian agreed, she waved her little hand and ended the call with a satisfied smile.
The next day, when Travis returned from preschool, he was surprised to find Adrian at home.
Learning that Shiloh’s contact had been restored, he eagerly took the phone to video call No
