Shiloh pushed the door open and stepped inside, immediately noticing Adrian holding Nora in his arms while Elma stood awkwardly to the side. Seeing Shiloh, Elma hurried to apologize.
After hearing Elma’s explanation, Shiloh frowned. “Elma, I told you explicitly to stay by Nora’s side at all times.”
She had even paid Elma extra to ensure it.
Elma, who had never seen Shiloh so cold, stiffened. Shiloh had always been polite to her.
“Shiloh, Nora was sound asleep, and my house is close by. I thought it wouldn’t take much time to run back and grab the laundry before the rain, Elma said.
She added, “But Nora’s fine, isn’t she? Back in the day, when the village was busy with farm work, kids were left at home all the time, and nothing ever happened. Why is your little girl so delicate? She’s not even a boy.”
Elma straightened her back as she said this, trying to defend herself.
“And her father is making a big deal out of nothing. You wouldn’t believe it. He actually scolded me. Shiloh, I’ve worked for you for a month and never had to put up with this kind of treatment. You owe me some compensation for this.”
Shiloh’s gaze turned icy. “First of all, he’s not Nora’s father. Secondly, this is an employment relationship. Nothing happened this time, but what if it had?”
Sensing Shiloh’s shift in tone, Elma grew nervous.
Shiloh paid generously and often let her take some meat and vegetables home.
The ingredients at Shiloh’s house were delivered regularly–seafood, beef, and other delicacies she had never tasted before.
Elma said, “Shiloh, I promise I won’t do it again. Please, give me another chance.”
Knowing Shiloh’s deep care for Nora, Elma reached out toward Adrian, trying to take Nora from him. “Nora, come here. Let me hold you.”
Adrian sidestepped smoothly, not allowing her to touch the child.
Noticing the mud stains on Elma’s hands, Shiloh grew colder. Without hesitation, she took out Elma’s wages from her wallet.
Shiloh said, “Elma, you’re fired. Don’t come back again.”
Elma stood frozen, dumbfounded. Fired? For leaving for just a moment, without any actual harm done? “Shiloh, you heartless woman! You’re just going to fire me like that? No wonder your man doesn’t want
you.”
Shiloh calmly opened the door and motioned for her to leave. “Get out! Don’t make me see you again.”
Shiloh had spent part of her childhood in Oklark Village before leaving for school.

After her divorce, unsure of where to go, she returned here with her daughter. At the time, her pregnancy wasn’t obvious, but as her belly grew, rumors began to spread that Adrian had abandoned her.
Things changed after she unintentionally saved the village chief’s life.
In a village where medical resources were scarce, even minor illnesses required a long journey to the nearest town, taking up most of the day.
With Shiloh’s arrival, she became the go–to for common ailments.
Now, with her work terminated, Elma dropped her pretense and showed her true colors.
Elma refused to leave, shouting profanities.
Elma shouted, “Shiloh! If Adrian isn’t the father, then he’s the lover you’re sneaking around with!
“I see those two boys don’t even like you! You’re probably some homewrecker who stole someone’s husband. Women like you, who are pretty on the outside but fliratious inside, are always trouble.
“You disgust me. I wouldn’t be surprised if your daughter grows up to be just like you–a lowlife!”
Shiloh slapped Elma hard.
“Watch
your mouth,” she said coldly.
Adrian called for two bodyguards, who immediately threw Elma out of the yard.
Sitting on the ground in a daze, Elma quickly began wailing and screaming.
“Oh, dear! They’ve assaulted me! These shameless people are bullying an old woman!”
Hearing the commotion, villagers gathered to watch the drama unfold.
Shiloh addressed the crowd calmly. “Elma, I only asked you to watch my daughter briefly while I treated. sick elders in the village, and yet you abandoned your duties to go home. You took my money but didn’t do the job.”
Turning to the villagers, she added, “From now on, I’ll personally care for my daughter at all times. If anyone here needs medical help, you’ll have to travel to the town clinic instead.”
In a few words, Shiloh explained the situation and made it clear why she wouldn’t be helping the villagers
anymore.
By the next day, news of Elma’s behavior–taking money but shirking responsibility–had spread across Oklark Village.
That same day, someone came to Shiloh for acupuncture, complaining about rheumatism. She turned them all away.
Because Adrian had taken care of Nora that day, Shiloh’s attitude toward him softened slightly.
While preparing food for his two sons, Adrian ended up making meals for everyone in the household.
