Kyla looked at Dad in shock, clutching her swollen face as she cried out.
“Dad, why did you hit me? Mom, look at him! I almost died… How could you do this to me?”
Dad snorted coldly.
“Don’t call me Dad. I’m not your father!”
Kyla, hurt and confused, took a step forward.
“Dad, look at me. I’m your most beloved daughter, Kyla!”
But Dad shoved her away with disgust.
The stitches on her freshly healed wound split open, and Mom’s eyes flickered with a hint of pity, but she didn’t move to help.
Kyla finally seemed to realize something was wrong.
“Mom, Dad, what’s going on? Did Sophie say something to you again?”
She looked at me with false humility.
“Sophic, I know you didn’t mean to leave me behind back then. Even if you were mad at me, you shouldn’t have gone and

“I get it now. From now on, whatever you want, I won’t fight you for it. But I can’t lose Mom and Dad…”
I looked at her coldly.
“Kyla, you always knew, didn’t you? You’re not their daughter.”
That was why she always resisted getting blood tests. She knew that once her blood type was checked, her true identity would be revealed.
Kyla’s face turned pale, and she avoided my gaze. “I don’t know. I just remember being taken away by a scammer when I was little.”
Dad kicked her heavily, his voice full of anger.
“You’ve been blaming Sophie all the time!
“Why can’t you remember that now?”
Kyla scrambled away, her blood soaking through her hospital gown, cowering in the corner. “It’s because you asked me why Sophie wasn’t abducted, but I was. I just thought…
“Otherwise, how would a little girl like me come up with that explanation?”
Dad couldn’t take it anymore. His face flushed red with rage as he threw his phone at her. “You’re lying! You said that yourself!”

Eddie rushed in just then, and Kyla crawled toward him, clutching his legs.
“Eddie, help me! Mom and Dad have gone crazy!”

Eddie, who had already figured out the truth, coldly kicked her
away.
“Let go of me, Kyla. You’re a morally corrupt liar!”
Kyla shook her head, sobbing.
“No, no, it’s not like that! Mom, Dad, Eddie, I love you all so much! I had been kidnapped and abused before I finally had loving parents. I can’t lose you…”
Dad no longer trusted a single word from her.
At that moment, Dad’s secretary arrived, bringing a stack of documents. He looked through them, his face growing darker by the second.
The papers contained evidence of Kyla’s secret financial dealings over the years.
She had even bought massive life insurance policies for Mom and Dad.
Dad slammed the papers onto her face.
“This is how you show your love for us? Are you trying to steal

Mom and Dad gathered the evidence and filed a lawsuit against Kyla.
They also posted a video on social media, apologizing to me.
They listed all the lies and frauds Kyla had committed over the
years.
In an instant, Kyla went from being the “beautiful doctor” to at pariah, hated by everyone.
“Oh my God, she’s so pretty but morally corrupt!”
“Who could be so shameless and ungrateful?”
Kyla was eventually arrested and sentenced to prison, where she would spend the rest of her life.
As for me, I returned to the country briefly, then decided to leave again.
On the day the truth came out, Mom and Dad both begged me for forgiveness.
“Sophie, it’s our fault. We hurt you all these years because of a liar!”
“Sophic, please don’t leave us. Let us make it up to you for the rest of our lives. We’ll treat you a thousand times better than before!”

Eddie, on bended knee, held out the same ring as before, asking me to marry him.
“Sophie, I was wrong. I was blinded by that woman.
“I’ve realized that I’ve always loved you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Can we go back to how things were?”
I smiled.
“It’s all in the past now. Sorry, I don’t want that.”
With that, I took the ring from his hand and tossed it into the
sewer.
Eddie, like a madman, dropped to the ground, desperately trying to reach into the drain.
Even as his hands were scraped and bloodied, he couldn’t retrieve the ring.
Just like how he would never find the version of me that once existed.
