Jake had always been sweet and gentle with
her, he had never spoken to her like that.
Sarah told herself she must have been
mistaken.
“Jake…”
Jake cut her off.
“Leave!”
く
This time, Sarah heard him loud and clear.
Her eyes filled with tears.
Whenever Sarah looked like that, Jake would
apologize.
But this time, Jake ignored her tears.
Sarah glared at Jake.
“Are you serious? That’s how you’re going to
treat me?”
She turned and stormed away.
Jake picked up his phone and dialed a
number: “I need you to find someone…”
く
When Jake showed up at my door, I wasn’t
surprised.
The city wasn’t that big, it was easy to find
someone.
I wasn’t trying to hide.
I hadn’t done anything wrong, why would I
hide?
I knew Jake would find me.
What surprised me was how much he’d
changed in a few days.
He had lost weight, he looked tired.
He looked happy to see me.
L
But I was cold and emotionless.
“I’m sorry.”
Jake’s voice was low, his eyes were red.
“For what?” I scoffed.
Jake looked lost.
He had done so many things to hurt me.
Seeing that I was about to leave, Jake
grabbed my hand.
“Please, let me explain.” Jake begged.
I pulled away, sneering.
“What is there to explain?”
く
“How you married me because of Sarah, how
you promised Sarah you wouldn’t have kids
with me so you made sure I miscarried, or
how you removed my kidney to give it to
Sarah?”
With each word, Jake grew paler.
Until his face was like a ghost.
“You…you know?” He hadn’t just found out
about the kidney. I knew everything.
He felt lost.
“You can love Sarah, but you can’t hurt me
because of it.”
“You love Sarah? Good, go and love her.”
<
“It’s not like that. I used to love Sarah, but
after being with you, I started to love you too.
I really did.”
Jake was desperate to explain.
“Love me?”
I started laughing, but my heart was
shattered.
“If hurting me is how you show love, then
keep it.”
“I can’t forgive you, you hurt me too much.”
“If you feel guilty, then never talk to me or
see me again.”
Jake’s eyes darkened.

He looked like he was going to speak, but he
didn’t say anything.
I was right.
He and I were over.
“Jake!” Sarah called from behind us.
I frowned.
Jake looked guilty.
“I didn’t tell her to come.”
“What are you doing here?”
“I know you worry about Claire, but you’re
sick.”
“It’s all my fault, I’m sorry. Jake came out
here looking for you while he was sick, please
forgive him.”
Sarah was begging.
But I wasn’t a fool.
“You’re nothing. Why would I forgive you?”
Sarah was speechless, turning to Jake.
He looked away, turning to Sarah.
“Go home. This is between me and Claire. It’s
not your business.”
<
“Go home. This is between me and Claire. It’s
not your business.”
“How can you say that? This is all because of
her!” I spoke.
Jake hesitated.
Sarah smiled.
Looking at her smile, I grinned:
“How’s my kidney working out?”
“You know?” Sarah looked shaken.
“If I were you, I’d stay out of sight. You don’t
want people to know you stole something that
didn’t belong to you.”
Sarah was quiet.
Not wanting to see them anymore, I turned
away.
Jake reached out, but Sarah held him back.
I could hear them arguing.
“Why did you do that for me?”
“I wanted to help you.”
“Now I regret it.”
I laughed.
I don’t forgive those who hurt me.
Г
They stole from me, and expected to get
away with it.
I had a lawyer. I had evidence.
The next day, I was going to sue Jake and
Sarah, but I learned they had died.
They argued, and Sarah grabbed the wheel.
The car crashed, and exploded.
They were killed instantly.
I didn’t know how to feel.
I wasn’t a saint.
They hadn’t paid the price for hurting me.
Leaving the courthouse, I saw the sun.
It was bright and clear.
I was finally free.
I moved to a new city, and started over.
