Chapter 10
Maxwell stood there, lost in a trance, his
mind seemingly elsewhere, unable to hear my words.
“Grace, for you, I am willing to lose everything.”
I snapped back, my voice clear and resolute. “But I don’t want that!” I met his
eyes, unwavering. “What about your
dreams? What happened to your professional ethics?”
“You‘ ve worked for over ten years to
become a captain. Are you really willing to throw it all away?”
“For a woman who no longer loves you? For a future you can’t even see? Is it worth giving up everything you‘ ve built?”
Maxwell‘ s gaze remained fixed, as if still lost in his own obsession. “If I think it‘ s
worth it, then it s worth it.”

I shook my head, my resolve hardening. “It’s pointless. Everything you‘ re doing is just self–indulgence, trying to redeem yourself.”
“I broke up with you six months ago. It’s over. It’s been over.”
“Leave, Maxwell. We have no connection anymore. I don’t want any more. entanglements with you.”
Maxwell froze, the weight of my words hitting him. After a long moment, he slowly approached and wrapped his arms around me, the hug almost as if he knew it. was the last time.
He cried, desperately, his tears soaking into my shoulder.
I never imagined that one day Maxwell would cry for me. The last time I saw him cry was when my sister passed away.
And then, just like that, we slipped out of
each other’s lives.

In a world without Maxwell, I live with purpose and determination.
I’ve finally done the things I once only dreamed of but never dared to pursue. I earned my pilot’s license from the CAA, flew a helicopter solo, and reveled in the vast, open sky.
I learned to dive, catch black gold abalone and sea urchins with my bare hands, then make fresh sashimi.
I took up sailing, feeling the rush of wind and waves as I sailed with friends, embracing the freedom of the sea.
I worked hard to build my strength, unlocking my vest line and completing my first half marathon, thanks to daily.
