Chapter 9 The Mental Block
Arana, Sutton’s POV
I returned to my room and closed the door. Not a moment later, Stefan roared, “ana
Those to ignore it Sadoess and frustration surged within me but I held them back. Another question popped into my head: a question. I still had no answer for Did Mother actually date Mr. Jablonsky at one point Or were they just childhood friends!
fit as the latter, then why did the Jablonskies divere? I had been too young to see the whole picture of this fiasco, and I often wondered if Stefan’s accusations of my mother destroying his parents marriage were true. My mother was dying when she canie to this family. It was possible she did everything she could to entrust me to this family, including destroying the Jablonskies marriage. However, I didn’t think too much of it because I did not have the courage to. Moreover, the people who were involved in this matter were dead. Even if they were to leave any clues behind, I had no chance to investigate them. This matter was taboo for Stefan. He wouldn’t allow anyone to mention it
When I arrived at Figaro’s house, he was there just like he was yesterday I said hi to him and got to work, patiently teaching Aria how to play the piano Aria was Figaro’s sister and her name was like a shortened version of mine.
Figaro would watch me silently as I taught his sister the ways of the piano. It was a little unsettling, but I told myself I was just overreacting. He’s a brillant man. No way held fall for me. What happened in college was just him trying to explore love.
He got me a glass of orange juice during the break. “You had a lot of this back in college. Hope your palate hasn’t changed. It’s freshly juiced”
Something stirred within me. For the first time, someone remembered what I liked even after years of not seeing me. I took the glass of orange juice and placed it beside me. Thank you”
Figaro smiled. “My dad didn’t give me any money back in college because he wanted to build my character. I got through college thanks to scholarships and part–time jobs. I thought you’d ask, but you didn’t.”
I smiled as well. I don’t like to snoop around. It’s called respect. Okay, break’s over. I’ll call Aria and resume the class.” Then
my phone rang. It was from the hospital. I went away and took the call. “Hello?”
The department head spoke, his tone hurried. “Where are you, Ariana? We need more hands on deck. We have a patient that needs urgent surgery, and we need you as soon as possible.”
This was a dilemma. I didn’t expect urgent overtime, but a patient needed rescuing
I hung up and looked at Figaro hesitantly, but before I even said anything, Figaro told me, “If you need to go, go. You can just defer the remaining time. It’s alright.”
I heaved a sigh of relief. Thanks, Figaro. I can always count on you. “Thanks. We have an urgent case, so I need to go to the “hospital”
There was praise in Figaro’s eyes. So, you became a doctor. I wasn’t as lucky as you. In the end. I had to walk the path my father laid out for me. Ill give you a ride.”
I waved him down. It’s alright. I can’t do that. Not after I have to leave in the middle of a session.”
He pushed me outside, smiling. “Oh, you don’t have to stand on ceremony with me. We’re buddies here, and you’re a doctor. A patient needs you. You have to go, now.”
For some reason, his warm touch calmed me down, so I went with him. Figaro had always been a charismatic man. Talking with hun was always an amicable affair. Once we reached the hospital, I said a hurried thank you and got out of the car. Once I got to the department, someone told me the patient was sent to the operating room ten minutes ago, and some other doctor took my place. I heaved a sigh of relief, though a question burned in my mind. Why is there a replacement? The chief wouldn’t have called me unless they really needed more hands on deck.
A nurse came to my office in a hurry and knocked on the door. “Dr. Sutton, if you’re ready, you should go to the ER now. Dr. M. Kenzie isn’t familiar with our machines as he was recently transferred here, so we need your help. The chief asked me to tell you this once you got here”
“Alnahi” | went with the nurge and ran inin a familiar foure in the corter “What are you—”
