Chapter 38 Never Be Able to Pay Back

My eyes widened in surprise as I met his penetrating eyes, but I quickly looked away.
1… have been saving money since you left the country. After all, I owe you and the Jablonsky Family too much. I can’t afford to keep owing you, right? I’m almost done paying off the balance. I will transfer the amount to you every month in the future. Have you checked the remittance last month?”
I knew I sounded like I was avoiding the subject.
Stefan’s expression turned cold again. Who wants your money? Can you really pay off what you owe me with money?”
“I know. It isn’t a money matter, but I can only do so much. If you need anything else, just mention it, and I will try my best to make up for it until I pay everything off. I clutched the hem of my clothes nervously while replying to him in a low voice.
I wasn’t sure if he was angered or amused, but he countered, “Oh? Until you pay everything off? You can never pay it off in this lifetime. To me, you are only useful in bed?
His straightforward statement made my face burn. I didn’t know how to answer him.
Although it seemed to be the case, the fact made me awkward and embarrassed.
I felt that I couldn’t stay any longer, so I hurriedly turned around and left. “I’m going back to my room now. You should go to bed early too…
As soon as I opened the door, there was a sudden rustle above my head. Before I could see what was coming. Stefan yanked me from the back.
The next moment, a potted plant fell to the ground and broke into pieces.
The plant was a bracket plant hanging on the eaves. Presumably, it fell due to the strong wind.
I shuddered all of a sudden. If I had walked out just now and gotten hit by it, I could have lost my life right there and then.
After breaking out of my trance, I realized that I was cooped up in Stefan’s arms.
His broad stature and powerful chest gave me a strong sense of security. His arms were holding me with unprecedented strength, and his breathing became much faster.
I raised my head and met his eyes which were as deep as the sea. As if being sucked into a vortex for an instant, my mind suddenly couldn’t work anymore.
He was slowly inching closer to me, making me a little lost as I felt the warmth of his breath on my face.
Before I could register it, he let go of me, turned around, and walked away. “Go to bed.”
“Right” I walked around the pitifully fallen bracket plant and returned to my room.
After closing the door, I clutched my beating heart tightly, and it took me a long time to calm down.
Did we nearly kiss each other?
Back then, he had never even kissed me that often when we had sex at his drunken state, let alone when he was sober.
Perhaps, it was just a physiological impulse. Yeah! That’s it!
The next day, when I got up to take a shower, I caught Lukas moving the bracket plant that fell last night to a new pot as he sighed. “Plant, oh, plant, whether you can live or not depends on your own luck. I can’t guarantee my skills.”

Lukas looked at me with a smirk on his face. “I saw you running out of Stefan’s room last night. You were in such a hurry that you didn’t even notice me standing right here. Did you do something guilty?”
His words made my cheeks burn, and I scooped a handful of water and splashed it on his face. “Shool I’m busy!”
Instead of avoiding me, he wiped off the water droplets on his face and shot me a beam. “Come on. We’re all adults anyway. Why are you so shy? I’m leaving today and don’t know when I’ll be back yet. Don’t miss me.”
Just as I wanted to argue, I suddenly realized something important. If he’s leaving, wouldn’t that mean I’d be stuck alone with Stefan!!
