Chapter 42 He Did It on Purpose
Ariana Sutton’s POV
Due to the overwhelming anxiety that I was experiencing, I could not fall asleep. The following morning. I got up early and started preparing to leave. Before I left the place. I explained the situation to Lukas in a message I sent him. Since he was abroad and there was a time difference, I feared calling him would disturb him.
Still, I didn’t anticipate an immediate return call from him. “Where are you going?”
1 replied. “Huntington”
After finishing my sentence, I realized I didn’t have to fill him in on my whereabouts. Stefan would know if he knew, right?
My heart yearns to see Stefan, but I know it’s impossible. It may be best that our paths will never be crossed again in this lifetime.
Following a few brief exchanges with Lukas, I hung up the phone. Then, I took one last look at the rose plant in the nook before I left, and I couldn’t help but wish that it would still be in such a lovely condition when I returned.
Later. I took a direct flight to Huntington to avoid unnecessary delays, and while I did manage to get a shut eye on the plane, 1 arrived feeling noticeably groggy. After getting off the plane, the first thing I did was look up hotels in the area. I had finished making reservations for a room when my phone rang with an incoming message alerting me to the arrival of an advertisement for a house rental.
The property advertised was in a nice neighborhood at a reasonable price. Although I was unaware of the local rental rates, I found the place quite affordable.
was normal.
I had no qualms about that message. In the era of data and technology, receiving personalized advertisements was t
Therefore, I made a note of it and was going to check into a hotel for the night before making arrangements to see the house the next day. However, since I planned on staying for quite some time, I needed to tread carefully, as not all landlords were as chill as Lukas.
In hindsight, it seemed ridiculous that I went back to the city with happy thoughts and anticipations, only to find that I was trying to get away from it.
The following day, I scheduled a viewing of the house. Since the other party never answered the phone and only sent text messages, I naturally assumed he was an agent and was surprised to learn he was the landlord. Moreover, the landlord was slightly off his rocker. He insisted I view the property alone, claiming the key was hidden under the doormat.
As soon as I stepped foot in the house, I thought that even if the rental price was doubled, no one would consider such a house excessively expensive.
The property was 180 square meters and was situated in a prestigious neighborhood close to several schools. Everything in the house, except the master bedroom, was mine to do with as I pleased; the only limitation was that I couldn’t rent it out. In addition, the landlord would come in and stay every once in a while, which did not bother me. Still, I found it peculiar and wondered if anyone had died here, so I feebly contacted the Landlord to inquire.
The landlord snapped back at me, saying there had never been an accident and that I should leave if I didn’t want to rent the place
Regardless, I rented it because I knew that if I didn’t find a permanent place to live soon, I’d quickly run out of money for basic necessities like food
James called me on the third day after I found a job in Huntington. When I picked up the phone, he questioned, “Have you arrived in Huntington Why didn’t you tell me immediately? I’ve been busy these days, so I didn’t check in on you. Have you found a place to live? I have a house here—”
Before he finished speaking, I interrupted impatiently, “I didn’t come here to stay with you. I have taken care of my work and living places. So, don’t bother me if there’s nothing important.”
After hanging up the phone, I pit ked up the fruit knife and was about to peel an apple when the doorknob suddenly turned.

As the door was pushed open. I was shocked. “S–Stefan? Why are you here?”
Not only was he here, but he also had the key to my rented house!
I would have thought I was delusional if he weren’t right in front of my eyes.

Stefan put the black suitcase in his hand to the corner, then raised his hand and loosened his tie. Then, he said in a low voice, This is my house, so why can’t I be here? Didn’t I tell you before I rented the house to you that I’ll occasionally come to stay in it? I happen to be on a business trip. During this period, we won’t disturb each other.”
It took me five minutes to digest this matter. If it was a coincidence that my landlord was his good friend Lukas when I returned to the small town, was it still another coincidence that he was now my new landlord?
I can’t help but feel like this is all a big joke and that someone is trying to make fun of me. However, I am confident Stefan did it on purpose
this time!
