Chapter 45 Related by Marriage.
Ariana Sutton’s POV
Cabot Sartre had avoided the public eye in the past due to family reasons, so I finally knew what he looked like.
My spirit was somewhat weighed down after I saw the test results. His physical condition was appalling, and despite his age of 65. his heart disease and kidney failure were considered terminal
When I remembered what Lukas said before the treatment, I couldn’t help but shudder. Big and wealthy families like his were complicated….
After putting together the treatment plan. I talked with him about my intentions. There was no waiting period for cardiac surgery on Cabot, but he would need a kidney transplant.
My voice trembled when I mentioned the possibility of death during the operation.
I couldn’t afford to mess up such a patient…
Still, Lukas kept an indifferent expression from the beginning to the end. “You do what you think is best. I trust you. He was the one who couldn’t hold it in and fell ill before he could make it to Grimsdale. Initially, we were going to look for Jan. We didn’t expect his illness to flare up as soon as the plane reached Huntington, so we had to land at Huntington Airport and find the nearest hospital. Coincidentally, you’re here. I feel more at ease if you do the operation.”
Hold it in? How could this illness be held in?
Then. I put the consent form for the operation in front of him. “Please read it and sign it if there is no issue. As I said… Every operation has its risks-
He signed without hesitation. “I know what you want to say. I don’t blame you if something goes wrong. Hurry up and go.
Nonetheless, I bit the bullet and asked, “Y–You’re not related to your father by blood, right? So, does he have any relatives by blood? It’s best to find a suitable kidney donor as soon as possible, as we can’t delay any longer.”
Lukas didn’t show any anxiety at all. “I know. This is a small problem. You can go and operate on him first and then arrange the next operation when a suitable kidney arrives. I will arrange it as soon as possible.”
After entering the operating room, I put aside all distracting thoughts and concentrated on operating on Cabot.
As a doctor, my hand holding the scalpel must be steady. Even if I was frightened by the Sartre Family, I could control myself now, and my hands would not tremble.
His situation was more complicated. The operation lasted nearly seven hours, and his vital signs weakened a few times during the process. I was slightly panicked, but fortunately, the operation ended successfully.
That was the beginning, and then Cabot was sent to the intensive care unit, and we could only wait until he woke before ruling out the risk of death.
When I came out of the operating room, I was exhausted. I had to stand for seven hours straight and felt high mental tension. In addition, I didn’t have time to eat, so it was normal that I felt dizzy.
When I came to the bathroom, I almost passed out, and that was when I realized I was a little hypoglycemic.
I held the sink and waited for my condition to improve. At that point, I saw myself in the mirror. The hair on my forehead was soaked and stuck together with sweat, my lips were pale, and I was extremely disheveled.
When I returned to the office, I walked in and caught a glimpse of Lukas and a woman standing by my desk. Stefan was also
there
Then, I pulled myself together and walked over. “The operation is successful. After the risk period is over, there will be not issues. There is only the problem of the kidney donor-
Before I could finish speaking, the woman suddenly grabbed my hand. “You are the girl adopted by the Jablonsky Family,
I was confused for a moment before I realized that the woman in front of me was Lukas‘ mother, Morgana Weiss, also known as Mrs. Sartre. To be honest, Lukas looked similar to his mother. Morgana was beautiful, and there was almost no trace of age on her face. She looked to be in her thirties at most and had a physique that all women yearned for.
So, I bit the bullet and smiled at her. “This is what I should do-”
Suddenly, Morgana looked at Stefan. “Stef, why don’t we form a kinship between our two families? Don’t worry; we will not treat your sister badly when she gets married into our family!”
