Chapter 48 I’m Afraid
Ariana Sutton’s POV
How could Lukas speak so frankly about that kind of thing?
When I heard his words, my face turned red. “Will you use the bathroom? If not, I’ll go first!”
Then, he went into the bathroom holding back a smile, and started peeing before the door was tightly closed.
1 hastily closed the door. “You’re something!”

After finishing up, he returned to the bedroom to sleep. Still, after his reminder, the events of last night reappeared in my mind again. When I thought of Stefan’s firm chest and fiery kiss, my heart couldn’t help beating wildly.
When I went out, I wore a scarf to cover the hickey marks on my neck. Still, no matter where I went or what I was doing, as long as my mind was free for a few seconds, the scenes from last night would involuntarily appear in my mind. I tried hard to control myself not to think about it, but Stefan’s figure kept coming up and haunting me.
In the afternoon, the people from the Sartre Family came with a kidney donor. It was the eldest son of the Sartre Family. Paget Sartre. Paget had blond hair and blue eyes. His slightly long hair was combed and tied back, revealing a smooth forehead. Besides, he had a high nose bridge and a fair complexion, which was attractive. Even though he wore many layers of clothes, I could still see the tattoos from his ears to his neck. There were even tattoos on the back of his hands. Moreover, his aura was so overwhelming that it was hard to look him in the eye.
Knowing that I was the attending physician, he walked into my office directly with two subordinates. They all bowed to me, and then Paget spoke fluently in another language, “Hello, Dr. Sutton. I am Paget Sartre, Cabot Sartre’s eldest son. I can donate my kidney to him, and the rest will be up to you.”
I was so frightened by the situation that I couldn’t speak for a long time.
Fortunately, Lukas arrived in time. “Okay, you guys can leave now. I will handle the rest.
Paget took a leisurely look at Lukas, then said in French, “Lukas, we’ve agreed on this. I will give Dad a kidney while you shall do as you promised me. Don’t go back on your word.”
Lukas replied angrily in French, “If it weren’t for the fact that our sibling recently got married, do you think your kidney is required? Truth be told, I wouldn’t waste my time trying to track you down.
Paget snorted softly, turned around, and left with his men.
I drank half a glass of cold water in one go and then calmed down. “L–Lukas, um… You can come and talk to me alone about your father’s affairs in the future, or your mother can come. You guys… I’m afraid-
Then, he quickly gave his word. “There won’t be a next time. So, don’t worry and prepare for my dad’s surgery. I’ll go through the formalities and pay the fees. Call me if you need anything”
Later, I made a dismissal motion with my hand so he would leave.
I dared not think about things too deeply. If Cabot died in my hands, would I still be able to see the sun tomorrow?
Before the operation, Cabot and Paget were required to have blood drawn for testing. The nurse struggled to find Paget’s blood vessels in his heavily tattooed arm, and she nearly broke down in tears as she administered the needle. Unfortunately, the nurse was so shaken by Paget’s terrifying aura that she missed the blood vessels entirely. Eventually, the head nurse did it herself, but it took two tries with different needles before blood could be drawn.
Those were the preoperative preparations. Then, the intensive care unit announced that Cabot had woken up and was out of the risk period for heart surgery. Still, he had to recuperate for a few days before undergoing a kidney transplant.
Moreover, I was under a lot of pressure, making me nervous that I wouldn’t be able to eat.
There were so many people in the hospital, why was I the only one involved?

escape if I wanted to, and I had to face the difficulties head–on, no matter how afraid I was.
When I was going to get the test report, I bumped into James in the laboratory department. What a small world!
He quietly folded the test results in his hand when he saw me. “Ari, what a coincidence! Do you work here?”
I nodded and didn’t reply.
Then, James explained, “A friend of mine is hospitalized. So, I came to see him and help get the test results for him. You go ahead, and I won’t bother you further. Let’s have a good chat when you’re free.
