Chapter 8.3
His words silenced the entire room. No one expected this revelation that Diana was
pregnant.
Diana lunged at him to grab his shirt. “What did you just say? This child is yours! How can you deny it? Do you want this baby to be born without a father?”
Robert ignored her and frantically turned back to look at me. “Trudy, I’m serious about you. I’ve already booked the wedding venue and the dress. This time, you just need to show up and be the happiest bride. I even got back the sapphire necklace. It’s yours and it always will be.

I frowned and looked at him coldly. “Robert, I’m getting married soon. I hope you’ll stop interfering in my life. Anthony and I are very happy. That wedding you’ve planned, well… it’s your wedding, not mine. It has nothing to do with me.”
“As for that sapphire necklace, do you think I’d want something someone else has worn? Anthony has already given me the most beautiful necklace in the world.”
The necklace around my neck was custom- made by Anthony. It was unique, crafted from my favorite meteorites into tiny stars, set in a design unlike anything else.
“We’re getting married next month and I
won’t be inviting you. In fact, I don’t want

you to come. From now on, I hope we never see each other again.” I said to Robert.
“Robert, the things you lose will never stay where you left them.”
Robert‘ s face turned ashen as he was forced
out of the room. The next day, news of Diana’s pregnancy spread like wildfire.
The Delaney Family stormed the Lockman mansion. They were making a dramatic scene and demanding Robert to take responsibility.
The Lockman Family was unwilling to concede. They retorted, “Who knows if it’s even one of ours? If you want us to acknowledge it … Okay, fine! Let’s do a paternity test. If it’s Robert‘ s, they’ll get married. If not, stop trying to pin it on us.

The results confirmed the baby was indeed Robert‘ s. Reluctantly, the Lockman Family accepted the situation.
There were no betrothal gifts, no ceremony, no announcement to friends or relatives. Robert and Diana simply went to register their marriage.
On the day they got their marriage certificate, Anthony and I were also at the registry. I wore a simple white dress with a small veil that Anthony had carefully placed over my head. The atmosphere was warm and sweet and
other brides in the room couldn’t hide their
envy.
“My bride must be the most beautiful and happiest in the world,” Anthony said with a
Chapter 8.3 smile.
Through the veil, I saw Robert‘ s reddened eyes and the unwillingness etched on Diana’s face. However, none of it mattered
to me anymore.
Our wedding was grand and extravagant. Families of influence and business associates
from both sides attended. Their attendance
made it an opulent affair.
While getting my makeup touched up in the bridal lounge with my best friend, we overheard gossip from a group passing by.
“Did you hear? Robert and Diana are getting divorced. Apparently, she seduced the conductor of an orchestra just to land a performance opportunity. The conductor‘ s

wife caught them in the act, beat her up and she lost the baby.”

‘Guess what? Robert didn’t even show up.
He just sent a lawyer to handle the divorce.”
“Serves them right.”
Their voices faded as they walked away. The news left my best friend and me sharing a knowing smile.
A family member came rushing in. “It’s
time! The bride needs to head to the ceremony. Today is a wonderful day. May your happiness last forever!”
I picked up my bouquet, lowered my veil and walked toward the grand doors of the wedding hall. As they opened wide, I stepped forward because I knew that happiness

awaited me on the other side.
