Chapter 5.1
Every head turned toward the doorway. It was Anthony.
He strode in with purpose with his phone still in hand. Without hesitation, he grabbed
Robert‘ s wrist and forced him to release me.
Then he turned toward me and his voice
softened as he asked me, “Are you okay?”
I shake my head. A wave of relief washed over me as he gently placed his hand on my shoulder. For the first time that evening, I felt safe and protected as I nestled on his broad shoulder.
He lightly wrapped his arm around my shoulder and said coldly, “Young Master
Lockman, what exactly are you doing,
grabbing my fiancée and spewing nonsense? Let me remind you that our wedding is not of your concern. If she wants pearls or diamonds, that’s her choice and frankly, you should keep your opinions to yourself.”
“Oh, and one more thing,” he added with a smirk. His gaze swept toward Diana. “As her ex, maybe you should focus on keeping your current… companion happy. Wouldn’t want her to get jealous over how much attention you’re giving another man’s bride.”
Diana, who stood beside me, was trying to hold back the tears that were about to fall.
Robert’s expression darkened, “What do you mean, your fiancée? Explain yourself!” He
Chapte
reached out and tried to grab me, but Anthony blocked him effortlessly
Anthony was from a different league than them. The man was always high and mighty. Even among the ordinary dinner, his status was higher than the men who were sitting there. They had to respect and please him.
His expression turned cold and no one dared to say anything.
Yet, Robert pressed on, he was unwilling to back down. “Trudy, you‘ ve outdone yourself this time. You even managed to rope Anthony into this act, huh? Fine, you’ve proven your point. I’ll ensure the engagement ceremony happens next week, without any more delays. Are you happy now?”
I didn’t even spare him a glance. Anthony wrapped his arm firmly around me and led me out of the room without another word.
Inside the car, as Antony sent me home, I exhaled deeply. “Thank you. How did you even know I was there?”
He chuckled softly. “The call never disconnected. I heard everything. Besides, Robert‘ s little show of welcoming his precious first love back has been the talk of the town. It wasn’t hard to figure out.”
As we drove, my phone buzzed relentlessly with calls from Robert. I ignored all of them but looked at the stream of messages flooding
- in.
“Trudy, what’s your problem? Did you
show
up here just to make a fuss and embarrass me and Diana?”
“My relationship with Diana isn’t like what you think! Stop making a big deal out of nothing.”
“Diana feels guilty and keeps saying it’s her fault you misunderstood. Come home now and apologize to her! Tell her this thing has nothing to do with her.”
“Where are you? Diana is upset and wants to stay in a hotel to avoid any fights between you and me. Come back and fix this!”
