raised my husband’s illegitimate son into a top student
Chapter 1
My husband and his mistress both died in a
car wreck.
Left me with their twin bastards.
Now, eighteen years have flown by.
I busted my ass raising those boys, even got
them into Harvard.
But the day they got their acceptance letters?
My dead husband and his bit on the side
strolled right back into the picture.
The mistress, all smiles, clung to my
husband’s arm.
“Thanks to your hard work raisin‘ them, my boys got into Harvard.”
“Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to
live it up for so long…”
Later, my husband asked for a divorce to
marry his mistress, a happy family reunion for
them.
I didn’t cry or make a scene.
Just gave a little smile and said, “Sure,
whatever!”

“Mom! Mom! We got in! We got in!!”
I was fixing dinner when I heard my two boys
yelling from the study.
“Mom! Me and Dylan both got into Harvard!”
They came barreling out of the study and
nearly knocked me over with a hug.
I looked at my boys, both taller than me now.
“That’s amazing, you guys! I’m so proud of
you.”
My husband’s been dead for years.
Being a single mom, I raised those two kids
alone for 18 years.
Now seeing them get into a top–tier school, I
couldn’t be happier.
My late husband and his flavor of the month,
Tiffany, both died in the car crash, leaving me
with their twin boys.
I kept them and raised them myself, even
though everyone told me it was a bad idea.
Now, 18 years later, they’re all grown up.
And I raised them to be smart kids, good
enough to get into Harvard!
“Mom, we know how hard you worked to
raise us…”
<
“Yeah, Mom, we wouldn’t be where we are
today without you…”
My boys are always grateful. They were
talking about getting good jobs after
graduation and letting me retire early.
Made me think about how their birthday was
coming up soon.
We usually just went to a restaurant for their
birthdays.
This year, why not throw a big graduation
party too?
So I booked the biggest room at the fanciest
restaurant in town.
At the same time, I posted about the Harvard
<
acceptances in the family group chat.
The notifications blew up my phone.
“Danny and Dylan are really something…”
“If Michael knew how successful his boys
were, he’d be so proud…”
I glanced at the messages and then posted
the location of the party.
Then I put my phone on silent.
Just waited for the big day…

The party was set for 10 AM two days later.
I got to the restaurant early that morning to
check everything.
Made sure the menu and the schedule were
perfect.
Most of the guests were my husband’s family.
None of my family were coming.
They never forgave me for raising my
husband’s love children, and my parents
almost had a heart attack when they found
out.
Even after all these years, they couldn’t figure
out why I’d jump into that mess instead of
L
My in–laws showed up being helped by
everyone around them.
They went straight to the head of the table
and plopped down.
My husband’s brother and sister showed up
with their families and sat to the side.
Eight people at the main table.
They were packed around my boys, leaving no
room for me.
“Hey, Brenda, what are you doing? Get Mom
and Dad some water.”
Sarah grabbed a handful of chips and rolled
her eyes at me.
She was my husband’s sister, and her life
wasn’t great. She was getting abused by her
husband and couldn’t have a son.
But she pushed out a son after three tries at
40 years old.
Now, she’s all puffed up and talking down to
- me.
My boys were stuck in the middle and tried to
help.
But my in–laws wouldn’t let them.
“My sweet grandbabies, come talk to
Grandma.”
“Look at you, all grown up! Just like your dad
when he was young.”
Г
“I think they look more like Tiffany,” my
brother–in–law said.
My in–laws glared at him, and he shut his
mouth fast.
I was running around the table trying to get
everyone drinks.
My sons finally couldn’t take it anymore and
pulled up another chair.
They made me sit down.
“Mom, it’s our birthday. You need to take a
load off.”
Everyone at the table had a different reaction.
く
Sarah just smirked.
“If my brother knew how well his sons were
doing, he’d be over the moon.”
“Ahem,” my father–in–law coughed, and
Sarah shut up.
“Brenda, today’s a great day, and Mom has
something to say.”
My mother–in–law smiled at me.
