Chapter 5
Keith finally saw me two minutes later. His smile immediately froze, and he hurriedly pushed Mildred aside.
“Cynthia, what… what are you doing out here? How do you feel? Does it still hurt?”
I looked at him steadily, trying to find a trace of the man I once knew on his face, but there was nothing.
Now, he was mature and composed, no longer the passionate man who once loved me deeply.
I shook my head. “It doesn’t hurt anymore. Just some minor injuries, nothing serious. The doctor said I just need to rest at home.”
Keith seemed to sigh in relief and casually introduced the woman next to him. “Mildred is my business partner. She happened to be here for a checkup, so I came to visit her.”
My eyes lingered on Mildred’s baby bump. “You’re pregnant? Why isn’t your husband here with you?”
Mildred gently touched her belly and smiled, looking very happy. “My baby’s father couldn’t come today because he’s busy, but he loves me so much. He bought me a villa and even designed a special blue firework show for me. It will be launched all over the city to celebrate my
pregnancy.”
I smiled faintly. “Really? You’re so lucky.”
Mildred became even more pleased with herself. “Mrs. Beltran, would you join us for dinner and watch the fireworks together?”
At that, Keith’s voice turned low and cold, like ice. “There’s no need. My wife needs to rest.”
With that, he wrapped his arm around my waist and carried me out of the room.
Behind us, Mildred’s smile froze, and her eyes burned with venom as she stared at me.
