Chapter 6
Keith brought me home and took care of me carefully, though he seemed distant.
I was too tired to face him, so I pretended to sleep.
He seemed distracted all day. When he saw that I was asleep, he immediately went into his study.

Suddenly, I received a text from an unknown number. It was from Mildred.
[You’ve probably figured out that the baby in my belly is Keith’s, right? Why do you still cling to him? He doesn’t love you anymore. He’s with me on every important holiday. Everywhere you look, you’ll find traces of me in your life. Your man completely belongs to me now, so leave him. I will love him more than you ever did.]
I let out a cold laugh and turned off my phone. At that moment, the sky was lit up with brilliant blue fireworks.
It was the blue I once loved the most.
Keith rushed in, covering my ears. “I’m afraid the sound of the fireworks will scare you.”
I pushed his hand away and looked up at the sky full of fireworks. “These blue fireworks are so beautiful.”
Keith gently patted my head. “If you like them, I’ll make sure they set off even bigger and more beautiful fireworks for you tomorrow. How
about it?”
I shook my head. “No need. I find things other people have used dirty.”
Though I was clearly talking about the fireworks, a hint of panic flashed across Keith’s face.
He held me tightly in his arms. “Don’t worry. I’ll design a unique firework just for you, one that’s only yours.”
In the following days, Keith kept coming home late, using work as an excuse.
I didn’t ask about his whereabouts, but Mildred’s messages never stopped.
There were photos of Keith personally making soup for her.
There were videos of Keith playing the guitar and singing for her during her pregnancy.
There were pictures of Keith spending a fortune on collectibles just to make her smile.
Each message seemed to flaunt the deep love Keith had for her.
I never replied, pretending I hadn’t seen them.
I had more important things to focus on, clearing all traces of myself from this home.
On the first day, when Keith was busy making soup for Mildred, I shredded the nutrition plan he’d personally written for me.
On the second day, after Keith bought a collectible for Mildred, I took off the necklace he had designed for me, the one with the crescent moon,
and sent it to the auction house.
On the third day, when Keith and Mildred shared a kiss under the moonlight, I burned all the love letters between us.
On the day I left, Keith stood by my bed, his face tired.
“Cynthia, why did you send the necklace I gave you to the auction?”
I looked at him, my tone flat. “I grew tired of it. I don’t like it anymore.”
He looked down and gently placed the necklace back around my neck. “Just wear it for now. When I have time, I’ll design a new one for you. That way, you won’t get bored of it”
As he spoke, my phone received a message.
Keith asked, “Successful cancellation?”
My heart skipped a beat at his words.
