Chapter 15
Scarlett smiled, her eyes curving into crescent shapes, showing a hint of shyness as she looked at Damon. Thank you, Mrs.
EverEIL
Lydia didn’t look at Scarlett, knowing her smile was probably dazzling at that moment. Nor did she glance at Damon. Lydia just wanted to greet everyone quickly and find a quiet corner to sit down.
Scarlett, always good at setting traps, wasn’t about to let her off easily.
Looking behind Lydia, Scarlett asked with feigned curiosity, “Lydia, where’s your husband? Why didn’t he come with you? Damon and I really wanted you both to be at our engagement ceremony. Why didn’t he come with you?”
Lydia curled her lips into a faint smile. “Oh, he’s busy with work. He was supposed to come with me and got called back to the hospital for an emergency. “I’m curious, though, why are you so concerned about my husband? Isn’t your fiancé charming enough?
Scarlett was caught off guard, her face paling as she bit her lip, dearly upset “Lydia, you’re being really harsh.”
Damon stiffened slightly, his expression freezing for a moment. Actually, he had called Henry, and the conversation had gone smoothly.
Lily discreetly pinched Lydia, silently warning her not to say anything rash.
Lydia, of course, had said it deliberately. A sharp retort was the only way to deal with such a hypocritical woman.
As expected, the atmosphere became awkward right after Lydia’s words.
Lily quickly pulled Lydia aside to a corner and whispered. “Lydia, what’s gotten into you? The Jones family isn’t someone we can afford to offend.”
Lydia pretended not to hear and turned to the dessert station, piling her plate with treats and sitting down to nibble on
them.
Lily, of course, was busy. After issuing her warning to Lydia, she went to chat with some of the wealthy ladies.
Lydia, who loved sweets, happily indulged herself, blocking out all external distractions. In an uncomfortable environment, her goal tonight was simply to make herself feel comfortable.
Scarlett might have been trying to make Lydia jealous and upset but Lydia didn’t feel a thing. She never allowed herself to be upset over trivial matters, so she had to remain calm.
The engagement ceremony began, with Damon and Scarlett standing on the red carpet, accepting everyone’s well–wishes.
Scarlett basked in her happiness, smiling as she leaned into Damon’s embrace.
When the host asked them to kiss, Damon seemed a bit dazed for a moment.
Scarlett gently pinched his waist and looked up at him with a slightly pouty expression. “Damon…”
Damon tensed, a complex look in his eyes as he pulled them away from some corner, lowered his head, and kissed Scarlett’s red lips. A round of applause followed.
Amid the warm applause, Scarlett’s inner flames of jealousy were momentarily soothed.

Chapter 15
Lydia continued eating the sweets on her plate but suddenly found them bitter.
She smiled bitterly at herself. It shouldn’t have been this way, letting those two spoil her appetite.
When she stood up to grab more, the lights in the hall suddenly went out. Lydia furrowed her brow, uneasy,
The once lively hall plunged into chaos due to the sudden power outage. Lydia sensed something was wrong and tried to
move to the side.
It was then that she realized her dress was being stepped on, and she couldn’t move. In the darkness, someone approached
her
The skirt being stepped on, the things knocked over… There was no doubt it led to a fall.
Lydia feared becoming the laughingstock of the event once she umbled, embarrassed to the point of humiliation.
Just as she frowned in distress, someone else fell ahead of her
In the darkness, Lydia could feel a chaotic heap of people crashing to the ground around her, accompanied by panicked.
Lries.
The pressure from the person who had stepped on her skirt was gone, but Lydia still felt unsteady.
One hand held a plate, laden with delicate desserts, while the other clutched a glass of milk.
Just as she was about to make contact with the floor, a slender but strong arm caught her in time.
After Lydia steadied herself, she took a deep breath, inhaling the elegant scent of perfume in the air, and politely expressed her gratitude. “Miss, thank you.”
Although Lydia couldn’t clearly see the woman’s face, her intuition told her that the person who helped her was a graceful beauty.
Soon, the lights in the hall flickered back on. The hotel manager came forward to explain that a new employee had accidentally flipped the wrong switch in the electrical room.
Lydia adjusted to the dazzling light from the crystal chandelier and looked over at the woman who had helped her. Lydia smiled, her lips curving gently. “Oh, you’re really quite a beauty
Grace Wason didn’t seem bothered by Lydia’s forward compliment. She raised an eyebrow slightly, her gaze sweeping over the woman sitting on the ground
Lydia followed her line of sight and looked at the woman on the floor. When she saw who it was, her brows furrowed involuntarily.
Helen Green was a mutual friend of hers and Scarlett’s. To be more precise, Helen was Scarlett’s good friend.
In truth, friendships in wealthy circles weren’t always as pure as they seemed.
The Jones family’s business was far larger than the Everett Family’s, which was why–Helen had always been closer to Scarlett.
Lydia suspected that the person who had stepped on her skirt earlier was Helen.
Helen had fallen because Grace had pushed her and then helped Lydia up, saving Lydia from further embarrassment.

Chapter 15
At an event like this, a woman in a gown falling down immediately became the center of attention.
Helen looked as if she wanted the ground to swallow her whole. Her face was pale, and the crystal glass she had been. holding filled with wine, was now spilled all over her white evening gown, leaving her in a complete mess.
Lydia instinctively glanced at Scarlett, who was walking toward them. She clearly saw a brief flash of frustration in Scarlett’s
eyes.
However, when Scarlett walked up, arm–in–arm with Damon, the frustration quickly vanished, replaced by a nervous look.
Scarlett stepped forward and helped Helen to her feet. “Are you alright? How careless of you.” +
Helen glared at Grace with venom in her eyes, gritting her teeth I’m fine.”
Scarlett instructed a hotel servant to take Helen to the changing room to change, and kindly lent her one of her own dresses.
She then turned her attention to Lydia, looking at her with concern. “Lydia, are you alright? With all the chaos earlier, you didn’t get hurt, did you?”
Lydia lifted a faint smile. “I’m fine. The desserts tonight are delicious, thank you.”
Throughout the entire interaction. Lydia didn’t spare a single glance at Damon. His face was dark, his body slightly tensed.
If you like them, I’ll visit your house more often, having the pastry chef at my place make extra and bringing them over for you. Scarlett smiled brightly, feigning innocence.
Lydia couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to her, even less to Scarlett’s insincere show.
Scarlett didn’t want to waste her time and pulled Damon away to greet other guests.
Grace turned to leave but was stopped by Lydia. “Miss, wait a moment. I’m Lydia Everett. I really appreciate your help earlier.
Grace didn’t ignore Lydia yet wasn’t enthusiastic. Having spent more time with Henry, Lydia had grown used to people with cold personalities.
Compared to Henry, Grace was quite pleasant. At least her gaze wasn’t cold
Lydia set down her dessert and milk, wiped her hands, and extended a serious yet polite hand. “Nice to meet you?
Grace paused for two seconds before coldly responding. Tm Grace Wason. You don’t need to be so friendly with me. Just
because I helped you doesn’t mean I like you. In fact, I don’t really like you.”
