Chapter 25
Amanda could only vent her anger on Lydia. “David, don’t be angry. This has nothing to do with Damon.
It must be Lydia’s fault. In a fit of impulse, she married some poor doctor, and now she’s regretting it. That’s why she seduced Damon, and that’s what led to all this.
As Amanda spoke, she pulled Damon aside, pointing at Lydia and scolding her. “Lydia, you’ve got to be kidding me. Have some shame! “After all this, Damon is never going to be with you. Our family has already accepted Scarlett as our daughter- in–law, so don’t even think about it.”
After weighing her options, Amanda decided to defend Scarlett, since in Valemont, the Jones family had deeper roots than the Everett Family.
Lydia sneered in disdain. “Mrs. Williams, you’re thinking too much. I didn’t seduce Damon. He knows that very well.”
Amanda had only seen Lydia as a cheerful and lively lady until now. But Lydia’s mocking smile seemed to mock her own arrogance. Furious, Amanda raised her hand, ready to slap her.
Damon grabbed her wrist. “Mom, that’s enough.”
Amanda shot Hank a sharp look. “Aren’t you going to do something about your son? He’s still trying to stop me from teaching this bitch a lesson.”
Hank yelled at Damon. “Damon, know your place.
Amanda turned to Lily, her temper flaring. “You won’t discipline your daughter? Fine, I’ll do it for you. She’s become completely out of control. She’s acting so high and mighty now It’s unbearable,”
Lily, standing by the emergency room door, looked worried and tense..
Just as Amanda’s hand rose again, before Damon could rush over a large hand shot out and grabbed her wrist with perfect. precision. The man’s voice was laced with cold menace. How dare you?
Before Lydia had a chance to react, Henry’s other arm was already around her, pulling her into his embrace.
Lydia pressed against his chest, hearing his steady heartbeat and Inhaling his familiar scent. For some reason, she felt inexplicably at ease.
Henry’s fingers tightened around Amanda’s wrist, pushing her away with force.
Amanda grimaced in pain, letting out a sharp scream. “Who are you? Let go of me!”
Henry released her, his brow furrowing slightly, his voice cold but commanding. Try hitting her again?”
Amanda shivered, feeling a chill run down her spine. The man’s aura was so intimidating that it made her uneasy.
She desperately wanted to slap Lydia again but found herself unable to summon any strength.
Lydia looked up at the man beside her and murmured, “Henry… Her voice carried a hint of helplessness and dependence. Henry replied in a low tone, I’m here.”
Henry cast a brief glance at Damon’s position, his lips curling into a cold, almost amused smile. “She is my wife. I’ll protect
her.

Chapter 25
Damon watched this scene, bis jealousy burning so intensely that it felt like it might explode.
He couldn’t understand when Lydia had stopped confiding in him. He wanted to tear her away from Henry’s arms, but his father kept holding onto his arm.
Just then, the door to the emergency room opened, and the doctor stepped out.
David immediately walked forward, with Hank and Damon following close behind.
Henry, however, took Lydia by the hand and led her away. As they left, Lydia thought she heard the doctor mention that Scarlett’s child hadn’t made it and had been lost in a miscarriage
Outside the emergency room, when Lily heard the news, her legs went weak and she collapsed into a chair, unable to stop herself from asking, The baby’s gone? What can I do? Scarlett cared so much about the baby…
Though Amanda was upset about the loss of her grandchild, since Scarlett was okay, her mood lightened a little.
Amanda gently reassured them. “It’s okay, Scarlett is still young. She’ll have other children. I’ll take care of her during this time. Once she’s recovered, she’ll have more kids.
Damon, hearing that the child had been lost, actually felt a sense of relief
David, seeing the obvious relief on Damon’s face, was furious. “Damon, what kind of expression is that? Scarlett was carrying your child. The baby’s gone, and you’re happy about it? Are you really that heartless?*
Amanda pulled Damon aside to calm him down. “David, don’t be angry. You’ve got it all wrong. Damon wouldn’t be happy. about this. He’s just worried about Scarlett’s well–being.
The most important thing is that Scarlett is okay. Don’t you know that Damon was the one who took Scarlett to the hospital? He even had blood on his sleeve. He must be feeling terrible inside.
David remained silent, his face cold. He turned and entered the patient room to check on Scarlett.
Scarlett had just undergone a miscarriage and a D&C procedure and was still unconscious.
Her pale face blended with the white sheets, her eyelashes fluttering ever so slightly. Even in her deep sleep, she seemed restless, unable to find peace
After Scarlett was wheeled into the room, Damon only glanced at her once before shifting his gaze elsewhere.
Once the nurse left, Damon glanced at his watch. “I need to head back to the office, he said.
David was furious with Damon’s attitude. His eyes burned with anger as he glared at him.
Hank, unable to hold his temper any longer, slapped Damon across the face.
That’s nonsense. What are you doing heading to the office now? Scarlett’s baby is gone. When she wakes up, she’ll be devastated. You should stay here and comfort her, Hank said sternly.
Amanda, feeling sorry for Damon, gave Hank a quick look and then added, “Damon, stay here and take care of Scarlett. You don’t need to worry about the office for now. Your father and I will head back to handle some urgent matters.”
Amanda shot Damon a meaningful look, silently urging him to obey.
Damon wanted to refuse, but Amanda lowered her voice and said. “Damon, can you be sensible? “I’m already upset because

we’ve lost the baby, and don’t need you adding to my frustration. The baby in Scarlett’s womb was yours. How can you just walk away?”
After a moment of thought, Damon decided to stay,
Once everyone else had left the room, Damon sent Lydia a text. Does your face still hurt? Happy birthday.]
When Lydia opened the message while sitting in the car, her eyes became complicated.
In the past, she had eagerly awaited this day every year because only Damon would remember her birthday and surprise her with something special. But now, as she read the message, all she felt was sadness
Everything was over. Everything had changed, and there was no turning back.
Henry, driving, glanced at Lydia’s phone screen and his gaze darkened. “Delete it.”
Lydia, still lost in thought, snapped out of her daze when Henry cold reminder broke her reverie. She quickly deleted the
message.
After she put her phone back in her bag, Lydia’s thoughts shifted to Scarlett and the loss of her baby, and a twinge of sadness crept in.
It was as if Henry could read her mind. “Not worth it.”
Lydia nodded, realizing Henry was comforting her in his own way. Only Henry could offer such a bold kind of reassurance. Suddenly, Lydia felt much better.
