Chapter 3
Damon reacted the most strongly. His face darkened, his back stiffening. His arm tensed slightly as he instinctively pushed. the hand off of his arm.
He froze for a moment, a sudden calm settling in his chest, though he still tried to play it off as a surprise. “Lydia, stop it. That joke isn’t funny.”
I can’t believe you’re joking at a time like this. When are you going to grow up? Damon said, his tone cold.
Lily frowned, scolding her softly. “Nonsense”
With the pain pressing on, Lydia felt like she almost couldn’t breathe. But when she saw their shocked faces, she suddenly felt a bit of relief.
Lydia said seriously, “I’m not joking. We’re going to get our marriage license tomorrow at 8 am.”
Damon’s eyes flashed with a storm of emotions. Scarlett noticed the change in Damon’s demeanor and felt a coldness spreading through the air around her.
She turned and looked back at Lydia, a hint of disdain flashing across her eyes. “Lydia, stop playing around. Damon and I feel sorry for you after today’s betrayal, but it’s not the end of the world.
Life goes on. Came down, okay? He is just an average surgeon, a new intern at Sunshine Hospital… Are you sure you are with such an ordinary guy? Oh, come on… Stop fooling around.
Sunshine Hospital was a prestigious private hospital, known for employing top–notch doctors. Henry, on the other hand, seemed so average and just a newcomer, Scarlett instinctively categorized him as an intern.
Henry had been silent until now, and when he heard Scarlett’s remark, he slightly lifted his gaze. He didn’t speak, but the cold, indifferent look in his eyes made Scarlett a bit nervous.
Feeling a little unsettled, she stepped behind Damon, seeking his protection.
She couldn’t understand why an average doctor could have such a commanding presence. His aura even surpassed Damon’s, which felt almost like he was a big shot
Scarlett took a deep breath, trying to reassure herself. He’s just an ordinary doctor. It’s nothing to get worked up about. He’s just putting on a show,’ she wondered.
Scarlett’s attempt to hide behind Damon again stung Lydia sharply. She lifted her chin and coldly curled her lips. “Maybe you think Henry’s ordinary, but I think he’s steady and warm. He makes me feel safe and happy. I
Shut up, Lily interrupted angrily, cutting her off. “Nonsense. This is pure nonsense. Do you think marriage is a joke? Marriage has to be built on a strong material foundation and mutual tolerance.
Have you thought this through? What about his future as an intern? Do you know how expensive housing in Valemont is? Can his salary cover the life you want? Don’t bring this up again don’t agree. Absolutely not.
Seeing that Lydia wasn’t joking. Lily immediately made her stange clear. For the first time, Lydia felt that Lily was incredibly
shallow.
She understood that Lily was angry because of her hasty decision, but Lydia still felt deeply disappointed. Lydia had her
own views on love.

Chapter 3
She had never believed that marriage should be based on a rich material foundation. To Lydia, the most important thing in marriage was love. It was about mutual feelings and commitment.
Lydia didn’t agree with the notion Lily had always drilled into her that she had to marry into a wealthy family.
Lydia looked at her mother seriously. “As long as he loves me, as long as we’re happy, it doesn’t matter if he can’t buy al house. I’d be willing to live with him in a rented apartment.”
This was the first time Lydia had been so harsh with her mother Even though Lydia had been distant from her before, she had always been obedient and respectful.
Lily was even angrier now, raising her hand to slap Lydia. “How dare you? I raised you and worked so hard to educate you. Now you dare to defy me?”
When Damon saw this, his body tensed slightly, but Scarlett quickly grabbed his arm, afraid he would rush in to protect Lydia as he had done during their childhood.
However, someone was quicker than him
Henry stood in front of Lydia, his large hand gripping Lily’s wrist. His gaze was cold and deep, his thin lips curling up just slightly.
Lily instinctively shuddered. She stumbled back a couple of steps, genuinely startled.
At Lily’s age, she had seen all kinds of men, but none had eyes as cold as Henry’s. At that moment, Lydia miraculously felt a sense of security.
“I must be so angry at Damon and Scarlett that I feel even a stranger is giving me a sense of security. Oh well, maybe it’s just that I’m so lonely right now… Lydia thought.
After Henry released her wrist, he looked down at Lydia. His tone was soft and gentle. “You should get some rest. I’ll pick you. up tomorrow at 8:00. See you then.”
Lydia truly felt she needed to rest.
After everything that had happened the night before, the only way she could calm herself down was to sleep. She nodded. turned, and headed upstairs.
Behind her, Damon’s eyes were deep as he stared at her back. His large hand, hanging by his side, couldn’t help but ball into
a fist.
In the end, he barely managed to spit out a few words. I must’ve been blind for years… she’s nothing but a shameless, dirty
woman…
Scarlett quickly grabbed him, her voice anxious, “You promised me.”
Upstairs, Lydia froze for a moment when she heard those words.
‘Hey, how ironic! He’s been blind for years? What about me? Wasn’t I blind too? Lydia scoffed inwardly as she wondered.
The next morning at 8 a.m., Henry arrived promptly in front of the Everett mansion. Lydia had slept through the night, and when she woke up, she still felt a little dazed.
Lily had been fuming since Lydia’s defiance the night before. When she saw the taxi pulling up at the front of the mansion,

her anger only grew.”
Throwing aside her usual grace and poise, Lily angrily pointed at Lydia and started scolding. “Lydia, you really are something. Are you seriously going to marry him? “He can’t even afford a car, taking a taxi to pick you up for your marriage license. If word gets out, do you think people won’t laugh at us? Your father has spent years building up his reputation, and now you’re ruining it!”
John had sprained his ankle the previous day, and Henry had mixed some sleep aid into his painkillers. He was still asleep
The mansion was chaotic early in the morning. The servants were so scared they kept their heads down.
Upon hearing Lily’s harsh words, Lydia frowned. Following her gaze, she saw the taxi at the door and the man standing beside it, smoking a cigarette.
In the sunlight, his shadow looked cold and arrogant. The sunlight scattered across his tall figure. Without realizing it. Lydia’s expression softened slightly.
The more Lily thought about it, the angrier she got, and she said even more cutting words. “What’s your attitude? I’m talking to you! I’m your mother, and I raised you with so much effort. “Is this how you treat me? You’re seriously planning to just marry any man you find? What is he? A nobody? Do you even know him?”
She added, The Everett Family is somewhat well–known in Valemont. How could you just marry an intern doctor? No marriage license. “I know you’re not as gentle or talented as Scarlett, but at least you’re the only daughter of the Everett Family. How can you degrade yourself by marrying such an ordinary man?”
If Lydia really marries a poor doctor, those rich ladies will make a mockery of me, Lily thought bitterly.
Lydia felt a pang of sadness in her heart. Seeing Lily’s angry, contorted face, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything.
After the events of last night, she hadn’t received a single word of comfort from Lily.
Lily’s anger and agitation now were nothing more than a result of Lydia not following the life plan she had set for her. Actually, Lily only cared about her own reputation.
“If Mom really cared about me, really loved me, she would ve realized that I was just talking out of anger last night, Lydia struggled to hold back her tears as she thought to herself.
