Chapter 5
Henry remained silent. Lydia furrowed her brows slightly, waving the blue circular elevator keycard in front of him.
Hey, Henry, I’m talking to you. Can you hear me? This is the elevator keycard. There are two elevators. The sensor on the one on the right sometimes malfunctions, so you’ll need to swipe it a few more times, Lydia said.
Realizing Henry wasn’t saying much and took a while to respond Lydia figured she’d need to be patient with him from now
- on.
Henry looked at Lydia, full of life in the sunlight, and for a brief moment, there was a flicker of something in his deep eyes. He coldly responded, “So talkative.”
Lydia pouted slightly and then admitted. “Sorry, talking too much is a woman’s flaw. Anyway, don’t waste your precious. time. I’ll just take a cab home. “You should get back to the hospital for your shift. I need to go home and adjust to being married. You’ll need to get used to it too.
With that, Lydia waved at the driver and turned, getting into a taxi and leaving
Henry lowered his gaze to the keys in his hand and gripped them tightly.
When he arrived at Sunshine Hospital and stepped out of the tax, he saw a person in a Lamborghini parked in front of the hospital. The man took off his glasses and started playing with the car keys.
Samuel Reed was a man with a unique charm, whose face seemed to attract everything under the sun. However, at that moment, his face showed a terrifying expression.
Henry, who had just gotten out of the taxi, immediately sensed Samuel’s afraid look and immediately turned his head, walking briskly toward the outpatient building.
Samuel quickly jumped out of the car, taking a quick step to block Henry’s path. With his eyes narrowed and arms crossed, he looked at Henry with a smirk, “Mr. Brooks, you actually took a cab to work? “Aren’t you worried your father might recognize you?”
Henry’s least favorite thing about Samuel was his reckless personality. There was never a kind word from Henry, his voice, always cold and serious. “None of your business.”
Samuel shrugged, dropping the usual mocking tone. “Henry, long time no see. You’re still as tight–lipped as ever. Can’t you say a few more words?”
Henry shot him a sharp glance, and Samuel felt a chill run down his spine. He instinctively touched his nose, giving a forced smile. Just kidding. I was just joking
Boring, Henry said.
Samuel’s heart felt like it had shattered. Henry’s words had hit him hard.
Samuel began. “Hey, Henry, are you really that cold–blooded? I Heard you came back and rushed to see you. “You’ve been. back in Kevidow for a week and never once reached out to me. You even hung up perime… Don’t you have anything to explain?”
Henry frowned. “Are you done?”
Samuel was used to Henry’s indifférent replies. He clutched his hest, looking as if he’d been wounded. “Henry, can you be more patient? You’ve been home for a week already.

Chapter 5
Oh, well, listen to me. You have come home for a week right? I came to the hospital just to block you… So, how about it: If you’re not comfortable living at home, just move out I’ll give you a villa in the city center.
Henry narrowed his eyes, his hand in his pocket subconsciously rubbing the keys. A delicate face unexpectedly flashed in his mind.
Seeing Henry’s momentary distraction. Samuel frowned in concern. “Henry, what’s wrong? Already being pushed out?”
Henry furned his head, noticing the worry in Samuel’s eyes. His tone softened slightly as he replied, “No need.”
Samuel shrugged. “Alright, I admit I’m pathetic. I’ll always chase after you, giving you my warm face while you give me the cold shoulder…
Henry raised an eyebrow, checking the time on his wristwatch.
Samuel kept teasing. “How about I give you a limited edition Lamborghini as a birthday gift? What do you think?” He was so excited that the words slipped out before he thought
Then, he noticed Henry’s face darkening and quickly apologized “Sorry, my bad. I meant it as a gift for our reunion. How
about that?”
Samuel knew Henry had never had a birthday. No one even dared to mention it in front of him. The cold, distant aura Henry emitted made Samuel instinctively shut his mouth.
Move aside, Henry said.
In the next second, Samuel was pushed aside, and the cold, obsessive man disappeared in front of him.
Samuel sighed. Henry stood with his back straight, his presence cold as ice, but Samuel could see a trace of loneliness.
Henry had just completed two major surgeries in a row, and it was already 2 AM.
The two other doctors who had been in the operating room with him left to check missed calls as they headed back to their offices. They both made calls home before heading out to their own places.
Henry remained unmoved by their actions. After returning to his office, he removed his work clothes and wearily put on his suit. The keys in his suit pocket slipped out..
In Eastwood Gardens, inside the elevator on the right side of Unit 1, Building 8. Henry’s reflection shimmered against the elevator walls.
He swiped the white card in his hand, but the elevator didn’t respond. He couldn’t help but think of Lydia, who had once shaken his arm and told him the sensor area sometimes didn’t work well.
Remembering her clear, bright eyes, something inside his chest softened, flowing like water. His hand swiped the card several more times, Beep! The number 16 lit up.
Henry stepped out of the elevator and stood in front of the door to Room 1605. He felt a little disoriented, even surprised at himself for having worn a tie to come here.
Through the peephole, Henry saw the lights on in the living room. When he opened the door, he saw a small figure lying on
the couch.

Chapter 5
Π
On the dining table was a spread of dishes, and a pair of men’s slippers neatly placed by the door. Henry’s eyes flickered. He changed into the slippers and stepped inside.
The TV was still on, and Lydia‘ was lying on the couch, sound asleep, holding the remote in her hand.
Under the soft lighting, her butterfly–like eyelashes fluttered slightly, and her soft hair scattered across the pillow as she held the pillow tightly.
Lydia was sleeping lightly. At first, she didn’t want to sleep. She wanted to wait for him to come back.
But after midnight, she was so tired she couldn’t keep her eyes open, so she just fell asleep with the remote in her hand.
Lydia blinked her eyes open and saw the man in front of her. She immediately sat up on the couch. “You’re back? What time is it?”
When she didn’t get an answer from Henry, she didn’t mind. She glanced at her watch.
It’s already 2:30 AM? It’s so late. You must be hungry. All this food is what I made, I’ll heat it up for you, Lydia said.
Henry had grown used to cold indifference over the years. He didn’t like getting close to anyone, especially not a stranger whose name he barely knew.
His eyes were heavy, his lips tightly pressed together as he reached out and grabbed her arm, speaking briefly. I’m not hungry
Lydia turned to look at him, and seeing the fatigue in his brows, she couldn’t help but smile.
Even if you’re not hungry, you’re eating with me. I’ve been waiting for you, and now I’m starving, she said, then immediately. ran to the kitchen without noticing Henry’s expression.
In the kitchen, Lydia was busy reheating the food.
During this, her smile faltered slightly. She couldn’t help but reach up to touch the spot over her heart.
The warmth of her fingertip against her chest was an attempt to fill the emptiness. For the first time, she felt her home was somewhat too empty.
In the past, she didn’t need anyone to keep her company, but now she was truly afraid of being alone.
