Chapter 7
Lydia frowned and deliberately pretended not to recognize Scarlett. She asked, “Who are you? Do we know each other?”
Scarlett felt awkward but still lifted her chin arrogantly. “Lydia, are you doing this on purpose? There’s really no need. You’re married now, and you don’t have to treat me like an enemy. “Have you forgotten that we were best friends? Have you forgotten our friendship? I’ve always considered you my good friend…”
Sorry, I don’t know you, Lydia said coldly.
Scarlett lowered her gaze slightly, her expression sad. “Lydia, this really hurts me.”
At this sight, Lily, already furious, couldn’t hold back any longer. She snapped. “Lydia, what’s your problem? Fine, you’re pretending not to know Scarlett, but what about your own mother?”
A pang of sadness shot through Lydia’s heart. Lily and Scarlett didn’t look so alike, otherwise, others might have mistaken them for mother and daughter.
Lydia took a deep breath, her throat tight as she called out hoarsely. “Mom”
Lily’s anger flared even more. “How dare you take matters into your own hands? If you hadn’t insisted on marrying that pitiful doctor, how would you even be here seeing me and Scarlett? “He cannot even afford a decent bed? And now you’re out here buying it yourself?”
Scarlett couldn’t resist adding fuel to the fire. “Lydia, is your husband’s income really so low? Does he need you to pay for
him?”
Lily, noticing Lydia was holding her own credit card, had her eyebrows twisted in frustration. “How can you be so infuriating? Do you really have to demean yourself like this? You’re really driving me crazy!”
She shouted, her face contorting with rage. The nearby salesgirl visibly stiffened, sensing the tension.
Lydia didn’t want to argue further. “Move.”
She tried to walk past Lily, but her indifferent attitude only enraged Scarlett more. In a burst of anger, Scarlett slapped Lydia across the face.
Lydia, this is too much, I can accept how you’ve treated me, but how can you treat Mrs. Everett so rudely? She’s your mother! she roared.
The slap echoed, and Lydia’s cheek burned with pain.
The salesgirl was stunned, his eyes wide in shock.
Scarlett felt a sense of satisfaction. She used to have to pretend, but now she didn’t need to.
Just as she was enjoying the moment, a chilling sensation suddenly ran down her spine.
Scarlett turned to scan her surroundings but saw no one. A puzzled frown crossed her face.
Lydia lifted her head, her eyes locked on Scarlett before shifting to Lily.
Although Lily seemed slightly surprised, she didn’t show any of the concern or affection a mother should have.

Chapter 7
Π
Lily subtly leaned toward Scarlett’s direction, a gesture that sent a cold shiver through Lydia’s heart. Lydia’s lips, now frozen with ice, moved slightly. “You don’t have the right to lecture me
Then Lydia raised her hand, ready to strike Scarlett back. But Lily was quick, grabbing Lydia’s wrist and hissing. “What do you think you’re doing? You’re actually going to hit Scarlett here How could I have a shameless daughter like you?”
Pain surged through Lydia’s chest as she looked at Lily’s familiar yet distant face, the sting in her cheek intensifying. Finally, Lydia let her arm drop, weakly bowing her head.
Suddenly, Lydia felt a powerful aura surrounding her, and a strong arm grasped Lily’s wrist. The sharp pain made Lily immediately release Lydia’s hand.
Lydia, surprised, felt like she’d known this sensation before.
Sure enough, when she glanced to her side, she saw Henry standing there beside her.
Henry’s cool, calm presence enveloped her, and it brought an unexpected sense of safety,
Hit her back. Henry said softly.
Lydia froze for a moment, staring at the determination in his eyes. With all the frustration and injustice she had been holding in, she didn’t hesitate, Lydia raised her hand without reservation and slapped Scarlett hard across the face.
She put all her strength into it. Her hand was numb from the impact. Lydia had always followed the principle of not bothering others if they didn’t bother her. Scarlett had pushed her too far.
Scarlett, completely unprepared, was left in shock, stunned by the sudden slap. Scarlett believed that with Lily protecting. her, she would be fine.
What she didn’t expect was for Henry to suddenly appear out of nowhere. What frustrated her even more was his cold stare. Before she could process it, she was slapped across the face.
Scarlett awkwardly covered her left cheek, her face burning with anger. “Lydia, how dare you hit me?”
Lydia, not backing down, answered coldly, “I’m just giving you back the slap you gave me.”
Scarlett shot a resentful glance at Lily, who looked at her with ash of sympathy before glaring at Lydia. “Lydia, how dare you! How have I raised you? Do you know what you’ve done? Scarlett’s face is swollen….
Lily didn’t have a chance to continue because Henry’s cold, pierding gaze immediately silenced her. In this situation, Lily knew better than to argue back.
Instead, Lily tried to change the subject. “Birds of a feather flock together. It seems you and this poor doctor really get along well.
Lydia, the daughter of the Everett Family, had been raised by Jon, a kind and gentle man, who never instilled such–shallow values in her. Lydia believed that everyone was equal, and deserving of respect, regardless of their status
Without thinking, Lydia retorted sharply. “So what if we’re poor We may not have wealth, but we have love. Didn’t you see him protecting me just now? We’re happy
Scarlett, where do you get your sense of superiority from? Just because you think Damon is the rich, handsome type? Don’t forget that’s exactly why every woman around him is more exceptional than the last._x000D_

Oh well… you’ve only been a mistress for a little over half a year to be his girlfriend. Be careful… The next mistress might already be on her way.”

Chapter 7
Scarlett’s face turned ghastly pale, tinged with gloom, her anger boiling over as she couldn’t even find the words to respond.
Lydia, you… Scarlett had always known that normally careless, Lydia’s biting remarks were enough to shake anyone, and today, her words cut deeper than ever.
Henry’s deep eyes flickered with a trace of emotion the moment Lydia stood by him without hesitation.
The scene was incredibly awkward for the furniture store staff, who were still holding Lydia’s card..
Henry glanced at her, then took his own credit card from his wallet and handed it over.
The salesgirl, understanding immediately, reflexively took the card and swiped it through in the frigid atmosphere.
Lydia hesitated slightly. The leather bed she had chosen wasn’t exactly cheap, and she truly felt bad about spending Henry’s
money.
But to spare Henry’s dignity, Lydia held her tongue. She simply lifted her head and smiled at him. “Thank you, Mr. Brooks.” She intentionally made her voice sound affectionate as if it was a term of endearment.
Scarlett, completely infuriated, snapped. “He’s poor and ugly… what’s there to be proud of? Do you even know if his credit card has enough limit?”
After the card was swiped, the salesgirl printed the receipt. “Sir, here’s your card, and the invoice. The leather bed your wife bought will be delivered this afternoon.
Scarlett’s asking for embarrassment. Her smugness quickly turned to shock, her face contorting when she heard the salesgirl’s words.
Henry had been treating Scarlett and Lily as if they were invisible the entire time. “Let’s go.”
Alright, Lydia said, pushing Scarlett aside. “Move,”
She wasn’t trying to push her, but Scarlett ended up sitting down hard on the floor. The next moment, Scarlett screamed. “Ah! My stomach hurts! It’s so painful…”
Lydia frowned, realizing she hadn’t used much force at all. When she looked up and saw Damon’s tense expression, she instantly understood. ‘She really is a talented actress, Lydia thought to herself.
