Chapter 21 He Had a Fiancée
After Samson’s departure, the room fell into silence for a while.
Lily did not feel like talking, while Robert was a man who spoke few words.
She tried to read some entertainment news on her phone, but it was impossible. She felt. skittish when Robert did not appear, but for some reason, when he did, she got more
nervous.
It was a frustrating feeling, just like when they were married. She would long for his return, but when he did, she pretended not to care. Indeed, it was an annoying feeling. After turning things over in her mind, she put her phone down.
“Thank you for what you did last night,” she said.
“I would have done it no matter who it was.” Robert glanced at her.
Lily nodded. “I still want to thank you. I-”
Before she could finish her sentence, his phone ang.
Robert looked at it and stood up. “Rest up. I’ll need to take this call.”
She grunted and looked outside, but after he left the room, she looked back. A moment later, she went to the room’s doorstep. The door was ajar, and Robert was taking the call right outside. She could not hear who the caller was, but his voice was audible.
“Yeah. I need to stay here for a bit. Something came up.” The caller then said something, much to Robert’s curiosity. “Carrie? I’ll handle it once I return.”
Lily froze for a moment. She

every time they gossiped about her.
in the Taylor Residence would mention this name.
She knew if she had not married Robert, he would have married Carrie, for Carrie was his fiancée. In other words, she took Robert away from Carrie.
Old Mr. Taylor insisted on this marriage, so Robert canceled his wedding with Carrie and. married Lily instead.
After some contemplation, Lily lowered her gaze and went back to bed.
Ward was a superstition anyway, and I could not keep someone who married me against his own will. Now, I lost him, and he started contacting Carrie again. Everything is a joke. I’m a clown in the grand scheme of things, she thought.

It ended up being a call, and when Robert returned, she was already lying on the bed.
Her eyes were closed, and her breathing was stable..
He thought she was asleep, so he walked to the sofa quietly.
Little did he know that Lily was awake as she was not tired. She merely thought there was nothing to communicate between them anymore. If it had been in the past, she would have been delighted at the chance to be in the same room as him. He was busy, and he did not care about her. Hence, he never spent time with her.
Now that they were divorced, she had this chance to be alone with him, but everything changed.
Lily sighed silently. Then she turned her back on Robert. Oblivious to what she was thinking, Robert scrolled through the itinerary on his phone. After skimming through it, he looked up at her and frowned.
Robert waited a long time, but eventually, Samson returned with dinner.
