Samson didn’t even hesitate. “Sure. I’ll come pick you up when you’re ready. Look at your ex- husband. Does he look like someone who doesn’t care about you?”
Lily thought back about how Robert looked. He was still aloof and stern when he talked, but from what she heard, he wouldn’t leave her alone.
“I don’t need him to care about me.” She sneered.
Samson glanced at her and went back to his game, but he lamented, “Lying to yourself isn’t good.
Lily pursed her lips and kept quiet. She then covered herself with the blanket, her mind in a
mess.
She didn’t know what she was focusing on, or to be exact, she had too many things to focus on. Every important detail flashed through her mind, but she could remember nothing.
A while later, she turned and had her back facing Samson. “Close the door when you leave,” she said.
Samson couldn’t stay here overnight, for it wasn’t appropriate for them to stay in a room alone. Now that Lily could be discharged, she should be healing up and holding herself better now. Thus, Samson grunted and said nothing more.
Lily drifted to sleep after a short while. She didn’t even know when Samson had left.
When midnight came, she woke up with a jolt. The room was empty, just like how she spent her nights before this. She was alone, waiting for someone who should return but didn’t
She slowly sat up, and the bedside lamp was still lit.
She looked at the time, and it was midnight, the time when everyone would especially women.
get emotional,
A moment later, Lily snapped a photo of her hand and posted it on her Facebook. The syringe wound was obvious in the photo.
She coupled it with a sentimental caption. The thing I used to fear most isn’t that scary once I got over it.

sleep. It wasn’t until the doctor came to make his rounds in the morning to tell her she could be discharged that she felt a little more energetic
Samson didn’t come in the morning, but he ordered breakfast for her. After her injections were done, without waiting for Samson, she packed her things up and sat on the bed. There weren’t many things for her to pack anyway.
Samson arrived at around 1 p.m., looking flustered. When he saw that Lily was done, he quickly took her stuff. “Let’s go. I have business to settle, but I figured I should pick you up first before going to work.”
Lily followed him out. “What happened? You look like you’re in a hurry.”
“Yeah.” Samson grunted. “There’s a meeting at Solaris Group. Both your ex–husband and I will be attending.”
She furrowed her brows. “I thought there’s a party tonight. Is it consecutive?”
He nodded. “Yeah. We’re probably going there after the meeting.”
Lily gave it some thought. “So, you’ll be going with him tonight, right?”
Samson didn’t even hesitate before answering, “Yeah, of course I’m going. You’re fine now. During the party. there’s bound to be some people your ex needs to attend to. If I’m there, it
will be easier on him.”
Lily nodded meaningfully. “I see.” Then she smiled. “This is perfect, then.”
Samson didn’t stop to think what she meant by that. All he did was grunt.
