Lily tossed and tumed throughout the night, unable to find rest. Exhaustion weighed heavy on her, but sleep remained elusive until dawn broke. As daylight seeped through the curtains, she rose, body weary but mind alert.
Peering out the window, she found the surroundings quiet and deserted, devoid of any sign of activity, The usual bustling night workers seemed to still be in slumber. After a moment of observation, she proceeded to freshen up and pack her belongings. Just as she neared completion, her phone rang. Its caller was none other than Elijah.
“Ms. Williams, are you up?” Elijah’s voice carried cheerfulness, tinged with joy.
“Yes,” she replied softly.
He informed her of his presence downstairs.
“Hold on. I’ll be down in a minute.”
With most of her packing finished, she grabbed her bag and left the room. Spotting Samson near the elevator. Lily hesitated. She didn’t wish to encounter Robert. The mere thought unsettled her after a restless night haunted by memories of their past. She felt a little displeased whenever she thought of him now. The memories she recalled were all unpleasant ones, after all.
She slowed her pace, inching towards the elevator, wishing she could delay and wait for the next one. Samson had already entered, but he popped back out, grinning at her and motioning for her to join
“Oh, hurry up and come over! Hurry; I’ll wait for you!”

With a sigh, Lily complied. To her surprise, Robert was absent from the elevator. “Why are you alone? Where’s your boss?” she inquired as she entered.
Samson raised a brow, explaining, “Thanks to yesterday’s incident, your ex–husband has some matters to attend to, granting me a day off. I’ve got the whole day to myself.” Turning to Lily, he asked, “Where are you off to all dressed up?”
“I have a date,” she replied, fixing her gaze on the elevator buttons.
He blinked a few times before replying, “Bring me along, then. I want to go out, but I’m still looking for routes and can’t decide where to go, so I think it’d be better if I just follow you.”
Lily responded with a cold scoff, “Go walk around yourself. I didn’t offer to bring you along.” She stepped out of the elevator once it arrived downstairs, with Samson tagging along behind her.
Elijah was already waiting in the lobby as she approached. “Are you all set? Are we leaving now?” he asked.
Samson shamelessly followed, chiming in, “I’m done with my packing too. Let’s go!”
Elijah’s expression tensed as he recognized Samson from the beach, who had flirted with Lily back then.
“Y–You’re…”
Casually, Samson interrupted, “Oh, me? I just happened to be free today. Lily and I agreed that we’re all going out to have fun together.”
Lily shot him an annoyed glance, but Samson ignored it, cheerily patting Elijah’s shoulder. “Let’s go. tell you more about myself on the way there.”

As they walked, Samson leaned in close to Lily, whispering when Elijah wasn’t paying attention, “I have a feeling that your ex–husband planned all of this when he gave me a holiday today.”
Lily remained silent, prompting Samson to continue, “Your ex–husband probably wanted me to follow
around. That man still has feelings for you.”

Lily stared at him incredulously, scoffing, “Are you still living in dreamland?”
Undeterred, Samson raised his brows, “Look, why don’t you believe me? I told him I wanted to bring him. along yesterday, but he refused before giving me a day off. He’d feel too ashamed to follow, but I’m not- I’m his spy. How could he think I wouldn’t see through his plan?”
Lily rolled her eyes in disbelief.
After some thought, Samson said, “You don’t believe me, do you? Hold on. I’ll give him a call.” He pulled out his phone and dialed Robert.
Robert picked up quickly. “What is it?” he asked.
With a cheeky grin, Samson replied, “Boss, I’m already with Lily now. Don’t worry. I have full control of all her schedules and everything else.”
