I felt annoyed but, because I didn’t want Tiffany
to drop her rating of me, I wrote a long
explanation.
It took an hour for her to respond.
[Keep away from Summer!]
And she also added: [Even if Summer hadn’t
intervened, I wouldn’t have let you bark like a
dog, Matt was just joking!]
It was like she was letting me off the hook.
As for her last sentence, I didn’t believe it for a
second.
In her mind, Matt was always the priority, and
this wasn’t the first time they humiliated me.
I threw my phone aside, collapsing on the floor,
staring at a fruit knife by the side.
The system warned me, “Dude, don’t think
about using suicide to trigger the reset earlier.”
“If you kill yourself, you’ll be seen as avoiding
the mission, and you’ll be resurrected again for
J
<
the mission. You’d just suffer one more painful
death.”
Chapter 4
“You got the wrong idea, system. I’ve made it
through four years, only ten days left, I can
make it.”
I forced a smile, but in my eyes, I could only see
despair.
In my old life, I was pampered by my family.
But for four years, I’d been abused like this.
All I wished now was for Tiffany not to call me
for the next ten days!
But, as usual, that wasn’t going to happen.
After spending three days at the hospital,
feeling slightly better, I got a message from
Tiffany, with an address and two words: “Come
over!”
When I got there, she had just come back from
a date with Matt, her expression was sour.
“Matt, don’t you get it, even a little, what I’m
feeling?”
“Tiffany, you’re kinda scary when you do that,
what’s wrong?”
<
Matt looked confused and alarmed.
Tiffany deflated, “Okay, I’ll stop pressuring you.
Don’t look at me like that, I’m worried!”
They embraced.
I stood there watching.
I used to feel sad and hurt, now I was only
numb and tired.
Tiffany talked about all the bad points of the
girl Matt went on a date with. After sending.
Matt home, she looked at me.
“Why aren’t you jealous or angry?” She asked,
sounding annoyed.
I
I was confused, “What?”
“I’m sweet to Matt, and you don’t try tox
fight
for me? When I spent time with Matt before,
you’d cry and argue, now you don’t even bat an
eye?”
Tiffany stared at me, domineering, but her eyes
looked worried.
I lowered my head, hiding my scorn.
“I’ve just realized, it doesn’t matter who you
like, or who you’re nice to. All that matters is I
love you, that’s enough.”
<
“Really?” She looked doubtful.
“Yeah.”
That was all lies.
I was just afraid of her rating of me going
down.
Tiffany scoffed, “Good thing you understand.
Follow me!”
“Okay.”
I followed her to the car, silently staring out the
window, remembering old times.
I had been truly in love with her once.
My first mission was when I was 18 and her
college freshman.
Tiffany was a star student and popular on
campus, and she was very sweet to me.
During the New Year Gala, the pianist got sick,
and she stepped in to cover without a word.
When I was targeted by the student union, shel
helped me get out of trouble.
I’d been in and out of hospitals, so I didn’t have
any experience with girls. Of course, I fell for
her.
But as soon as I was deeply in love, I found out
that she was only using me to get a reaction
from Matt.
Matt had been adopted into the Reed family
when he was small, they were childhood friends,
he was her true love!
When I found out the truth, I was heartbroken.
I argued, I fought, but I couldn’t let go.
But, after four years of abuse, and dying seven
times, I was left only with hatred and pain.
Thank god, I’d be leaving soon.
We arrived at an exclusive club.
Tiffany went into her private room.
She was not feeling well and ordered a lot of
drinks, asking me to join her.
This always happened when things went wrong.
with Matt.
“I still have pneumonia, I need medication, not al
good time to drink.”
I explained, holding my glass.
Tiffany got furious: “Jake, is this the love that
you always talk about? You can’t even drink.
with me. It is really cheap!”
“You’ve been obsessing over me for so long, ist
<
it because you really like me, or is this just
some kind of game?”
She was yelling, and her eyes were red.
Was I waiting for her rating of me to reach
00%, to end the challenge so I could leave her
for good?
Chapter 5
I was annoyed, but had to appease her to keep
up the rating.
“I’ll drink, I’ll drink! It’s not just a game, it’s
real… It’s real love!”
I said those disgusting lies, took the glass, and
drank it all at once.
The alcohol was awful, causing me to cramp
up, I cringed from the pain.
Tiffany smiled, filling another glass: “Drink
again.”
When she got drunk, she began rambling.
“Jake, do you think he loves me?”
“He said I was great, and that I was his type.”
“But, he’s got an agenda with me, I just don’t
know if he loves me or not.”
“I can’t take it when he is with other women,
<
even if he’s just saying hi, or smiling at them! I
can’t stand it!”
“I don’t know what to do…”
Tiffany only dared to be this honest when she
was drunk.
She just kept saying ‘he‘, without using his
name.
She didn’t want me to know that I was the one
she cared about.
