She was always the top of the social ladder,
always being chased after, she couldn’t bear to
love someone who didn’t love her back!
She couldn’t accept that I was just playing at
game, and that I’d leave as soon as the
challenge was over.
She wasn’t going to let me win.
That way, even if I didn’t love her, I had to stay
with her forever.
My head was spinning, and my stomach kept
turning, I threw up into the trash can.
Tiffany rushed over to me, hugging me tight.
“Jake, I’m so glad you won’t ever leave me, I’d
go crazy if you did!”
I looked down, hiding my scorn.
Who said I wouldn’t leave?
She just had low ratings of me the first seven
tries, that’s why I couldn’t leave.
Tiffany didn’t hug me for long. Matt called her.
“Matt, you wanna try some of Jake’s food? I’ll
bring him over!”
She had been upset over Matt dating someone.
else, now, she was suddenly happy.
She made me take hangover meds and take a
shower.
“Matt hates the smell of alcohol, so wash
yourself real well, he doesn’t like his food
spoiled!”
She pushed me so hard, I almost fell down the
stairs.
I grabbed the rail and said, “You were too
rough, I could have fallen down. It could have
been serious!”
Tiffany was shocked but wasn’t willing to
apologize: “Normal people die, you don’t. Why
are you being so annoying?”
In her mind, my life was not as important as
<
what her love wanted to eat.
I felt sad for my past self. “Yeah, I’m looking.
forward to dying, so I can get away from you.”
“Stop trying to scare me with that! You told me
when you were drunk, that I’m your target, and
that you would be back no matter how many
times you die!”
Tiffany was offended by my comment. She
reached over and tapped the necklace she had
- on.
“Also, see this?”
“No matter what you look like, this and I will
find you!”
The jade pendant shimmered softly, when it
was close to me, its light highlighted my pale.
face.
Actually, the first time I tried to romance
Tiffany, she was nice to me.
Her rating of me was up to 95% and, I was
about to win her over, but I died saving her in
an earthquake.
The second time, she made me drunk and
asked: “Are you…Aaron?”
<
Aaron was my name the first time.
I had tried to deny it.
But Tiffany had tears in her eyes, saying, “You
don’t look like him, and you’re not related to
him. But my necklace is glowing, I know you’re
back.”
“If it really is you, could you please be honest
with me?”
“I have nightmares every day after Aaron died!”
I loved her back then, and I didn’t want her to
feel bad, so I admitted it.
And that was when she started hating me for
tricking her, saying I was an immortal monster,
and treated me worse than trash.
I remembered everything, and my heart ached.
Chapter 6
Tiffany just had a cold expression.
She shoved me into the bathroom: “Hurry it up!”
After I was done, she shoved me into the car.
When we got to the villa, I had to work on
preparing food.
After three hours of cooking, Matt said:
“Tiffany, I don’t want the Northern food, I want
Szechuan cuisine!”
“Okay, I’ll have Jake make it!”
She was always so patient with Matt.
She smiled, cuddling with him as she watched
TV, ordering me to pour the food away and
make a new meal.
“Okay.”
I answered, heading to the kitchen.
As soon as I was in the kitchen, Tiffany got out
of Matt’s arms and stared at me.
Matt, looked at this and clenched his fist.
I was still sick with pneumonia, and I was very
tired.
I was distracted and cut my hand, blood
staining the board.
Then Matt walked in.
He said sadly, “Tiffany, I heard Jake doesn’t
have a clean lifestyle, he might have a
contagious disease.”
“Is he jealous of me? Is he purposely putting his
blood in my food, wanting me to catch his
disease?”
Tiffany had just seen pictures of me with other
<
women on Matt’s phone, so she was annoyed.
She coldly said, “Jake, if you don’t want to
cook, you can tell me. Why would you resort to
something like this?”
I covered my bleeding hand, trying to explain: “I
just cut myself, I didn’t…”
“Shut up! Get out of here, I don’t want to see
you again!”
Tiffany yelled and dragged me out.
I was like a clown.
She got so close with other guys, but I never
acted jealous.
I’d laugh and be relaxed with other girls, but
when I was with her, my face was like a
tombstone!
So, maybe, I didn’t love her.
She was the only fool who fell head over heels
for a man she knew didn’t love her.
I fell to the floor because I was sick and weak,
also twisting my ankle.
Tiffany didn’t turn around, shutting the door in my face.
It was snowing outside.
[
<
The snow was white, but when it hit the floor, it
became dirty and muddy.
I was shivering, all alone in the snow.
“It’s okay, there are only seven days left,
everything will be over.”
I tried to reassure myself.
Things would get better.
When I arrived at the hotel, I was coughing
non–stop.
I had just checked in when Tiffany called: “Who
said you could go?”
Should I just stay outside and freeze?
I did not want to argue: “It’s too cold outside, I
need a place to sleep.”
“I need you to come back, now!”
She always ordered me around, not even
considering how I felt!
I took a deep breath, suppressed all my
negativity and called for a cab back.
When I arrived at the villa, Tiffany wouldn’t let
me in. She just held out her hand.
“Matt likes the necklace you’re wearing, give it
to me. You can offer it as an apology for the
blood in the kitchen!”
I paused: “My mother made those for me before
she died. It was a wedding present!”
They were the only thing I had from my old life.
Those were the only things I held on to, to keep
me going.
Tiffany scoffed: “You always say that you love
me, but you can’t even give me your mother’s
necklace? Is that your love?”
Chapter 7
“L…”
“Stop making excuses, are you giving it to me.
or not?”
My face went pale, but then I remembered my
mother’s last words: “Son, all I want is for you
to live a happy life.”
I took off the necklace, looking at it one more
time and then giving it to Tiffany.
“You can have anything you want.”
Tiffany’s face relaxed.
She said, “Tomorrow, at the birthday party,
Matt is coming with someone else. You’ll come
with me, but you have to leave tonight, I don’t
<
want Matt to misunderstand.”
“Okay.”
Matt was shouting for Tiffany from the inside of
the villa, and she went to him.
Once again, I was left in the dark.
I was not sad, only numb and tired.
I was standing by the side of the street, in the
dark, waiting for a cab, thinking:
“Please let time go by quicker.”
I was not going to take it much longer.
I went back to the hotel and fell asleep.
The next morning, Tiffany dragged me back to
the house, making me try on suits.
She was pacing around, looking at her phone.
I saw her screen and realized she was talking
with Matt.
