[Tiffany, do you think that the gray suit looks
better on me with Miss Mann? My aunt thinks.
that she is good for me and wants me to marry
her.]
[I also think she is great, what do you think?]
Tiffany hid her phone, made me try on the most
expensive suit and watch.
She was not happy with any of them..
“Are you trying to hit on someone?
“Why are you wearing those cheap suits?
Trying to make me look bad?”
“Jake, why are you looking at people with that
sweet expression? No one will care about it
except me.”
Matt got her all worked up, and she was taking
it out on me.
I needed to keep my rating up, I did not argue
with her.
I knew that anything I did was wrong for her.
Finally, I was wearing a navy suit and a Rolex.
“Is this okay?”
I was already annoyed with all the wardrobe
change and asked, turning to Tiffany.
She stared at me for a moment, blushing, and
turned away saying, “Okay, I guess.”
I thought that maybe I was seeing things. I
thought I saw feelings in her eyes.
The system always said her rating of me was
99%. That meant that she must love me and
couldn’t leave me.
<
But, she never left me alone.
“Stop spacing out, let’s go!”
Matt and his date were already there, so Tiffany
dragged me to the car.
Tiffany and I looked fantastic, causing a lot of
attention at the party.
But Tiffany just went straight to Matt.
“Matt, here is the ring that you liked. It’s for
you!”
She gave him the ring, looking at me first.
I was spacing out again, not looking at her, and
she scowled.
“Thank you, Tiffany, but I heard it was Jake’s
mother’s necklace, isn’t it bad to give it to me?”
Matt said, looking triumphant.
Tiffany scoffed: “You liking his stuff is his
honor!”
She said that loud enough for everyone to hear.
I was numb and just stayed silent.
Tiffany took Matt’s hands and said, “Matt, I will
give you anything you want. Miss Mann cannot
give you the same!”
Matt acted innocent: “You’re like a sister to me,
<
and she’s who I’ll marry. Why would you
compare? You’re both nice to me, why is it
bad?”
Tiffany nodded without really listening, I was
distracted, and she did not want to play act
anymore.
Many people came up to her to chat.
As soon as she left, everyone started making
fun of me.
“I’ve never seen anyone so shameless. To
please a woman, he even gave away his
mother’s necklace!”
–
“That’s nothing! Tiffany made him jump into the
lake to get Matt’s watch, and he did it, even
when he knew that he could die.”
“If I had a son like that, I’d die of anger!”
I wanted to go, but Matt was right behind me.
“Why do you guys keep trying to win over
Tiffany, like lost dogs?”
“You think that Tiffany loves you just because
you live together?”
“She is just using you to make me jealous! Why
would she want to be with a loser like you?”
L
Matt was no longer friendly and his true colors
were out.
Chapter 8
I nodded, “Yeah, I know.”
I’d given up on Tiffany a long time ago. But Matt wasn’t done yet, “You always wore that ring set around your neck, and I figured they had to be something special. So, I told Tiffany I wanted them. She gave them to me
right away.”
“But, turns out they were from a dead lady, so, yuck!”
Matt pulled the rings out and tossed them out
the window.
My blood ran cold. “No!”
Outside the window, there was a cliff, and the
river below.
Those rings were gone forever!
I jumped, trying to get the rings back.
But Matt pushed me down, then he sat on the
floor and started to yell.
“Tiffany, Jake said I was too lowly to wear
those rings, and he tried to push me out the
<
window!”
“I almost died! I thought I was never going to
see you again!”
I looked up, and I saw Tiffany’s angry
expression.
I tried to get up, trying to explain, “Tiffany, I
didn’t push him, he threw away my mother’s
rings, and then…”
Before I could finish, she slapped me hard
across the face, “How dare you try to hurt
Matt?”
How dare I try to deceive her again, and hurt
someone she cared about?
Did I think that she was too attached to hurt
me?
My face was red and I said, “I didn’t…”
“Stop lying!”
Tiffany slapped me again.
I covered my face, feeling the rage build up, a
look of despair on my face.
“Tiffany, you’re using me because you think I’ve
always loved you.”
Tiffany looked even colder, “You don’t get to
<
say you love me, those words are disgusting
coming from you!”
“You always say you love me, but you were
hitting up Summer for her number, do you think
that she likes you?”
I was done with her, “I just wanted to thank
Summer for saving me!”
I was telling her the truth.
But she didn’t believe me, heading to Matt. She
looked so worried and helped him up..
“Don’t be scared, Matt, I’m here now. I will
make Jake pay!”
“It’s okay Tiffany, he just yelled at me, threw
away the rings, and pushed me.”
Matt was leaning on her, acting like I had done
a terrible wrong.
“You’re too kind and innocent, so that’s why
people take advantage of you!”
Tiffany was cold, looking at me: “You better
hope that Matt is fine!”
And then she left.
Matt smirked at me.
The other guests were pointing at me.
<
“He is not even ashamed for being a leach to
Tiffany. And he was mean to Matt!”
“So nasty and pathetic! No wonder she doesn’t
like him.”
“He’s cute but evil.”
I was unable to argue back. They had me
kicked out of the house.
I was halfway up the mountain and this was
where the Reeds‘ private estate was.
No cabs would come up unless they were
invited.
I was wearing a thin suit and dress shoes, trying
to walk down the freezing cold mountain.
My feet were bleeding and when I almost got to
the bottom, a car charged towards me.
When I looked into the windows, I saw men
inside, and felt terrified.
I turned to run, but where would I go?
“Ah!”
The car went after me, some men jumping out.
I felt something hard hit the back of my head,
and blacked out.
I woke up early in the morning.
