Katelyn stopped Liam and gave it to me.
“I didn’t know they died, so I’ll give it back.”
As I was about to take it, she let go.
It dropped to the ground.
It broke into pieces.
<
I didn’t believe it, and I slapped her.
Liam checked on Katelyn and didn’t care
about me.
“Sarah! What’s wrong with you? You already
have it back, why are you hitting her!”
I checked the pieces and he made his
assistant take me back.
I grabbed the pieces and went to the airport.
Before I left, I sent everything to my lawyer.
Chapter Two
Back at the house, Liam got home and I was
gone.
A jolt of panic hit him, like he’d lost
nothing vital. He started blowing up my
L
phone.
[Sarah, where are you? I didn’t know that was
your mom’s. Please, don’t be mad.]
[I’ll buy you a brand–new one. Whatever you
want.]
I was already on the plane. All I texted back
was:
[I got you a gift too.]
Liam started to breathe again. Then he saw
what I’d done to his study.
His face went white.
Photos ripped to shreds, the weird mannequin
things knocked over…
<
The vein in his forehead was throbbing. This
was the “gift” I was sending?
He grabbed his phone, practically spitting
with rage, ready to fire off some nasty texts.
But he froze. What the hell was he supposed
to say? Was he supposed to explain the
Katelyn shrine he had built?
That’s when it hit him: people don’t like
having the stuff they care about destroyed.
How stupid could he have been?
He cautiously texted me.
[Honey, were you in my study?]
Nothing. Radio silence. His face drained of
く
color.
He started calling, over and over, his fingers
clumsy with panic.
“We’re sorry, the number you have dialed is
not in service at this time…”
He just stood there, staring at the mess. He
didn’t even notice his secretary showing up
with Katelyn in tow.
Katelyn gasped, putting a hand to her mouth,
all wide–eyed and fake.
“Liam, you had so many pictures of me
saved.”
“That is so sweet. I was being careless. I
apologize.”
L
Katelyn helped him up, batting her eyes like
she was worried.
Liam looked like he was going to be sick.
“What are you doing here?”
Katelyn smiled, picking up the torn wedding
photo.
“I wanted to say sorry to Sarah. Even though
she didn’t catch it, I broke it, so it’s partially
my fault.”
“But I didn’t realize you were so….
So in love with me.
وو
Liam ignored the picture, trying to hide the
embarrassment.
Г
“You don’t need to apologize. I’ll get her
another one. I’ll make it right to Sarah.‘
“”
“Can you help me find Sarah? She is gone.”
Katelyn gave a little laugh.
“”
“Oh, relax, Liam. She’s just throwing a
tantrum, like always. You’ve been together for
so long, you know how she gets.”
“I get what she’s doing. It’s just jealousy, you
buy me gifts, and she doesn’t want you to.
She just wants to scare you.”
“Seriously, she’s acting so immature. Can’t
she think of you for once? It’s not like she
works or contributes to the family.”

<
For once, Liam wasn’t wrapped up in
Katelyn’s fake charms. Memories of me, of all
the times I’d put him first, flooded his brain.
I always considered him. He took me for
granted, didn’t even bother to buy me flowers
half the time.
Katelyn kept running her mouth, but Liam
suddenly realized something.
My stuff was gone. My pink toothbrush cup,
gone from the bathroom.
Liam’s face went cold. He stared at Katelyn,
a sick feeling twisting in his gut.
