After Sarah’s parents are taken away by the
police, Sarah doesn’t give up.
She starts showing up around me, or rather,
around Ethan.

“Ethan, I’m so sorry. I never thought my
parents were like that. I didn’t want to hurt
Ashley, and I didn’t know the truth would be
like this. Can you forgive me?”
Ethan ignores her and fawns over me. “Is she
crazy? Why is she apologizing to me?”
“Is it hard to understand? Without that
excuse, why would she be around you?”
I smile.
Ethan knows me too well. Seeing my smile, he shakes his head. “Hey, don’t smile at me like
that. It has nothing to do with me. Don’t
blame me for this.”
“You need to be a member to enter this club,
and it has a million–dollar start up fee. She
wasn’t invited by you, how could she enter
this club?”
I drink my tea, watching him.
He gets even angrier. “Someone must be
helping her from behind the scenes. They
know all my plans.”
“I don’t know why Uncle hates me so much. I didn’t even know they were friends. He has
even been working with the girl who tried to hurt you.”
There he goes again, with that whining tone.
“Are you saying she used my dad’s
membership card to get in?”
“I dare not say anything” He sounde
“I dare not say anything.” He sounds even
more resentful.
I lose patience and kick him.
His face turns red, and he sounds girlish.
“Why don’t you just ask Uncle yourself?”
I think about it and realize something is off.
Even though Dad’s been blaming Ethan a lot
lately because Mom’s been cold towards him,
he’s still scared because he exposed his
hatred for the Hayes family in front of Mom.
Before I even have a chance to talk to Dad,
I’m kidnapped.
When I open my eyes, I feel like I’m floating,
probably on a boat.
My hands and feet are tied behind me with a
rope, I can barely move.
“Take the boat to the middle of the ocean,
then throw her overboard. No one will ever
find her.”
That voice sounds familiar.
I try to move closer to the door, trying to hear
better.
The door opens.
Of course, it’s Sarah’s dad.
“So, Sarah’s target has been me all along. I
thought she was after Ethan.”

I’m trying to think of a way to escape when
he starts boasting, “You think I’m stupid? You

Sarah’s mom walks in, her face sinister.

been the one being abused all these years,
not my Sarah! When I think about that, I want
to tear you to pieces! You’re lucky, I’m giving
you a quick death!”
She hands a sharp knife to Sarah’s dad.
