He stared at me and sat across from me.
Before, I would’ve been asking him what was
wrong. Now, I just wanted to enjoy my meal.
Liam said, “We were in the middle of a fight
when Dave had his party, so…”
I cut him off. “It’s okay. It doesn’t matter.”
He stared at me in disbelief.
The last time, I asked Dave why he lied to me.
く
Dave looked at Liam and smirked.
“I didn’t want to hurt you.”
Liam snapped, “That was so long ago, why
are you still talking about it?”
After dinner, Liam stayed.
I took out the divorce papers.
He looked at it and laughed.
“What’s this? You want a divorce?”
He dropped the papers. I picked them up and
handed them to him.
“I’m serious,” I said.
く
“Why do you always do this?”
He slammed the door.
I put the papers on his desk.
Liam didn’t come home that night.
The next day, Liam picked me up from work
again.
I opened the back door.
Liam asked, “Why are you… in the back?”
I looked at him. “What’s the difference?”
“Get in the front.”
I sat in the passenger seat.
There was something under my butt. I picked
it up and saw that it was lipstick.
Liam said, “That’s probably Chloe’s. She loses
stuff all the time.”
He watched me.
I handed him the lipstick. “Make sure to give
it back to her. It was expensive.”
“I really don’t know. I–I don’t know what to
say…”
I cut him off. “It’s okay, Liam.”
“What?”
Г
“I don’t care about you and Chloe anymore,” |
said.
He turned pale. I looked out the window.
Liam started picking me up from work and
stopped going out.
Every day, I left the divorce papers on the
table.
He didn’t say anything about them, and
neither did I.
If I got worked up, he would make fun of me.

school. He wants to take us out to dinner.”
Dave’s nephew wanted to get into an
international school, but he didn’t qualify.
When I got there, I said hi to everyone.
“Honey, thank you so much for the help. My
sister has been really stressed about this.”
I smiled and took the drink, but I didn’t drink.
“It was nothing.”
Chloe walked in. “I knew I heard you guys,
Liam, Dave!”
She saw me and stopped smiling. “Oh, hey.”
She turned to Liam. “I need to have dinner
too. Can I eat with you?”
<
Liam glanced at me.
I said, “Sure, why not?”
Dave looked at me.
“Liam, can you peel my shrimp?”
“Does Liam always peel your shrimp? Every
time we eat, he says I’m dumb, so I can only
eat the ones he peels.”
She was happy.
I asked Liam to do that once.
He said, “You can do it yourself.”
“But everyone else does that.”
