Jennifer knew exactly what to expect when Millie spoke.
She paused before responding, “I’m helping out at Ms. Hoover’s fashion studio this afternoon. It’s related to my coursework.”
“A fashion studio? Selling clothes? You should stop doing that. It lowers your status!”
Millie’s tone was stern. “Jennifer, once you graduate, you do no need to work. Just stay home and take care of my son. You don’t need to learn those things. The designers will come to serve you.”
Jennifer’s expression turned slightly strained at these words.
She lowered her head to hide her true feelings. “Mrs. Millie Clark, I understand. I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Good. You should be honored to marry Timothy. You need to remember your place!”
Timothy frowned and spoke up, “Mom, that’s a bit much. Jennifer is free to do what she enjoys, and I won’t stop her.”

Chapter 105 Don’t Need to Look for Approval Angelina interrupted Millie, “Enough. Since Timothy doesn’t mind, don’t interfere so much. Let the young couple handle their own mallers.”
Angelina smiled as she saw Timothy defending Jennifer.
It seemed their relationship had been improving lately.
Millie had no choice but to stay silent.
Jennifer glanced at Timothy, her expression slightly conflicted.
She hadn’t expected him to speak up for her publicly; she thought he wouldn’t say a thing.
During dinner, Mary suddenly looked at Jennifer. “By the way, I heard you had a falling out with your family and even had Timothy cancel the deal with the Hargreaves family. Do you know that without that contract, they could go bankrupt?”
Everyone fell quieter.
Jennifer set down her fork and replied calmly, “I do.”
“If you knew, why did you do it? The Hargreaves family going bankrupt won’t benefit you, will it?”
“Timothy was just standing up for me. It’s not like he’d really let them go bankrupt. I didn’t expect everyone to be so interested in our affairs.”
Jennifer’s tone sounded almost affectionate, which irked Mary.

Jennifer nodded with a faint smile. “I understand, Mary. But I heard that Sandy’s management of the charity has stirred up bribery rumors and is under investigation by the Anti–Corruption Bureau. I wonder how that turned out?”
Mary’s expression changed instantly. “Jennifer, what nonsense are you talking about?”
Jennifer paused, pretending to look surprised at everyone. “Oh, did I hear that wrong?”
Mary said hastily, “You must have heard wrong!”
Millie spoke calmly, “But I heard it’s true. Didn’t your husband miss dinner tonight to handle it?”
Mary anxiously explained to Angelina, “Mom, Sandy was misled by some senior staff. She wouldn’t dare be involved in bribery!”
Angelina scoffed, “It better be.”
Mary didn’t dare speak further.
Millie smiled in satisfaction; it was finally the second branch’s turn to face defeat.
Jennifer felt relieved once the meal was over.

Millie, seeing Mary reprimanded, was in a good mood and even looked at Jennifer more favorably. “You’re well–informed, I see.”
Jennifer lowered her gaze. “It’s only right.”
“That’s more like it. Focus on the Clark family and my son. The sooner you have a son, the better.”
Millie gave her instructions and left.
Jennifer sat on the couch, grabbing a piece of fruit and muttering, “As I thought, this family life isn’t for me. Graduate and stay home taking care of my son, then have a baby as soon as possible? I’m not a hen!”
Timothy walked over to her. “Who said you were a hen?”
Jennifer nearly choked, startled. “I didn’t say hen… You must have misheard.”
Timothy’s gaze was intense. “You don’t need to take my mother’s words to heart.”
“I know. Anyway, our relationship isn’t real.”
Timothy’s lips tightened. “What I mean is, even if you become. my wife, I wouldn’t restrict your freedom.”
Jennifer’s heart suddenly raced.
