Asher looked at Jennifer in shock. “What are you doing? Who gave you the right to break off the engagement?”
Sarah was overjoyed inside; it was what she wanted if Jennifer and Timothy called off their engagement.
She quickly put on a fake, sympathetic expression. “Jennifer, something this big should be discussed with us first.”
Jennifer’s tone was cold. “I have severed ties with the
Hargreaves family. I don’t need your mother’s permission to make decisions.”
“Jennifer, what are you throwing a tantrum for now? Don’t embarrass yourself in front of Mrs. Millie Clark.”
Asher was truly angry.
He didn’t expect Jennifer to openly mention breaking off the engagement. “Didn’t she realize the consequences?” he wondered.

me.”
Asher furrowed his brows and said, “Sarah, you don’t need to make these concessions. This is Jennifer’s fault, not yours.”
“Asher, but I’m a part of the Hargreaves family too. Jennifer is acting like this because of me, so I do have some responsibility.”
Sarah lowered her head, feigning understanding, all while performing for Millie.
She hoped Millie would see her as more understanding and considerate than Jennifer, and that she’d allow her to continue the engagement with the Clark family.

Before she could say more, Asher slapped her across the face. “The whole world is talking about this, and you still think haven’t done anything wrong?”

Millie left for the back garden, no longer staying in the living
room.
She realized that the Hargreaves family hadn’t yet come to a consensus and that the idea of ending the engagement was only Jennifer’s.

“Everyday expenses? Do you mean for food? Haven’t I done enough for the family over the years?”
Jennifer’s voice was filled with disdain. “For example, when you had that headache problem, I personally found a doctor and made sure you got treated. Or when the Hargreaves family was on the brink of bankruptcy, it was my engagement to Timothy that brought in the deal and saved the Hargreaves Group.”
Asher responded confidently, “Those are things you should have done.”
He couldn’t understand why Jennifer was framing these actions as sacrifices she had made.
