Chapter 28 Taken Away by Force
Jennifer couldn’t believe Asher was actually using force to bring her back.
She retreated a step, pushing against him. “Let me go! I’m not going back!”
“As your guardian, it’s my responsibility! You have no say in this.”
“But I’m an adult now!” she insisted, her voice steady but laced with defiance.
Despite her protests, Asher managed to shove her into the car.
As Jennifer settled in, she said with a touch of irony, “Honestly, going back won’t make any of you happy. Why bother?”
She mused bitterly, “I was even kicked out of the Hargreaves family in my previous life.
Wouldn’t it just be doing them a favor if I left now?”
Asher said, “Jennifer, I get that you’re upset, but you can’t put yourself in danger! Timothy is not someone you can trust. It’s like sending a lamb to the wolves!”

Jennifer’s lone was calm but sharp, slicing through Asher’s arguments.
For a moment, Asher found himself unable to meet those piercing eyes.
With a heavy sigh, he realized how deeply upset she was, how much she felt wronged.
“I know you’ve been hurt. I’ve already talked to Daniel about turning off your credit card. As for the model… Let’s discuss it when we get home. I promise I’ll make things right.”
Jennifer felt completely drained, leaning back against the seat and closing her eyes, tuning out the chatter around her.
No matter how much she explained her situation, nobody seemed willing to listen.
Asher observed how resistant she was. He knew this sulking was all due to her anger over Sarah.
But when he heard that Timothy had come to school today to support Jennifer, Asher understood he couldn’t leave her with a. man he deemed dangerous.
He had to bring her back home.

out, Sarah rushed over, a plate of fruit in her hands. “Asher, you must be exhausted! Have some fruit for those vitamins.”
Seeing Sarah so caring and thoughtful filled Asher with warmth.
He mused, “Thank goodness she’s being so considerate; I don’t have to worry about her.”
As he opened the car door, he glanced inside. “Jennifer, we’re home. Time to get out.”
Sarah followed his gaze, her expression shifting from concern to shock as she spotted Jennifer in the car.
She mused, “I can’t believe Asher brought Jennifer back!”
Quickly recovering, Sarah switched to a cheerful tone. “Jennifer, you’re finally back! We’ve all been so worried about you. If I’m in your way, just say the word, and I’ll gladly move out of your
room.”
Asher chuckled, witnessing Sarah’s overzealous hospitality. “You stay where you are, Sarah. Jennifer can have your room.”
“Wait, Asher, that’s not right! That room belongs to Jennifer. Ì couldn’t just take over; that would upset her,” Sarah protested, acting all too magnanimous.
Asher felt a swell of appreciation for her apparent selflessness. “You’re quite generous to consider that.”

Jennifer couldn’t help but think, “What a fake! I used to fall for
Sarah’s act too.”

Daniel stepped out, his expression cold. “Jennifer, you’re home. Are you planning to sit in the car all day? Do we need to roll out the red carpet for you?”

With a huff, Jennifer hopped out of the car on one foot, making her way to the trunk to grab her cane.
It suddenly struck Asher that her foot was still injured. He rushed over. “Let me help you with that!”
“I can manage!” she snapped, irritation bubbling to the surface.
“Seriously, I’ll do it. You shouldn’t be straining yourself,” Asher urged.
Jennifer’s patience wore thin. “I said I don’t need help!”
With that, she retrieved her cane herself.
At that moment, a flustered maid named Amanda Danes hurried over. “Ms. Hargreaves, let me assist you! Mr. Asher Hargreaves, Ms. Hargreaves is still injured; how do you expect her to get out of the car with everyone just chatting away and no one offering to get her cane?”
Asher sighed, “I honestly forgot about her injury for a second.”
Amanda continued, her tone scolding, “That’s just it, isn’t it? You didn’t think about her at all. Ms. Hargreaves has never faced real hardship; a foot injury like that must be incredibly painful, right?”
Jennifer shook her head, trying to downplay it. “Amanda, I’m fine now.”

Daniel’s face twisted in discomfort. “Amanda, did you hear that? She said she’s okay. If anything, Sarah’s the one who’s hurt more seriously. Why is Jennifer still playing the victim?”
Amanda couldn’t hold back. “Mr. Daniel Hargreaves, are you really that oblivious? That day, you pushed Ms. Hargreaves down the stairs with such force. Do you even realize how cruel that was to your own sister?”
Daniel was momentarily at a loss for words, caught off guard by her boldness.
Sarah quickly jumped in to defuse the tension. “Amanda, Daniel was just reacting to the situation. It’s my fault for pushing things too far. If you’re looking for someone to blame, put it on me!”
