Chapter 3 She Left
Jennifer handed over the necklace, and all eyes were on her.
Sarah forced a smile, trying to sound casual. “Oh, I wouldn’t say I dislike it. It’s just… well, this crystal necklace has special meaning, since Daniel gave it to you. I don’t feel right accepting such a meaningful gift, especially as an outsider.”
“Why wouldn’t you? Aren’t you part of the family now? Daniel isn’t petty. He won’t mind.” Jennifer said.
Before Sarah could protest, Jennifer looped the necklace around her neck. “There, it looks perfect on you. Congrats on getting even closer to our family.”
Sarah was fuming inside. She had been expecting the diamond necklace from Jennifer, not this cheap trinket.
The situation felt all wrong, and now, Jennifer was rubbing it in.
Her eyes flicked to Daniel, who was simmering, and quickly she kept quiet.
Instead, she turned to Asher with a sweet, practiced smile. “Asher, I’m really happy. I know this necklace isn’t expensive, but it means the world to me.”
Jennifer’s smile was sly. “Well, I hope you take good care of it then. You wouldn’t want to lose it, would you?”

Sarah clenched her jaw but didn’t say anything. Inside, she was seething.
Asher, seeing their tension case, let out a relieved sigh. “It’s good to see you two getting along. After all, we’re family. Jennifer, don’t forget, her mother saved your life, so it’s only right we treat her well.”
Sarah quickly added, “Asher, don’t worry. I understand. Jennifer’s just young and worried I might take her place. It’s okay, I don’t hold it against her.”
Asher looked at her fondly, appreciating her maturity. Compared to Jennifer, who often acted on impulse, Sarah was a breath of fresh air.
He turned to Jennifer. “You could learn a thing or two from Sarah, Jennifer. She’s so generous, so mature. If you could pick up even half of that, I wouldn’t be so worried.”
Jennifer felt a bitter irony settle in her chest.
But she was too drained to argue any longer.
With a soft, resigned sigh, she said, “You’re right, Asher. I was too blind before. I won’t make that mistake again.” She wasn’t going to make the same mistake as the fool who gave everything
away.
Jennifer put on a carefree smile. “Well, I’m off to see the doctor. You guys continue.”

She limped upstairs, her face unreadable, her heart heavy.
Asher watched Jennifer leave, a vague discomfort settling in his chest. She seemed different somehow, though he couldn’t exactly figure out why.
Jennifer had always been stubborn. For her to apologize so easily just now didn’t feel like her at all.

Daniel snorted in frustration, “Asher, don’t let that girl fool you. She’s just playing a game to make us feel guilty.”
Asher sighed, a tired look in his eyes, “I just hope she doesn’t stay so stubborn.”
Sarah hesitated, then softly said, “Daniel, I really can’t accept this necklace. It’s too precious. I don’t want any conflict with Jennifer over it.”
Daniel’s frustration flared. He clenched his teeth, barely holding back his anger.

“It’s fine, just take it. Let’s see how long Jennifer keeps up act.”
He still couldn’t believe that Jennifer would truly give up the necklace.
Sarah lowered her head, playing the obedient part, but inside, she couldn’t hide her relief.

She didn’t want to wear this cheap necklace, but she knew she
had to.
Seeing how obedient Sarah was, Daniel grew even more frustrated with Jennifer. “Sarah, you need to rest and recover, so that small room isn’t suitable for you. Have Jennifer switch rooms with you!”
He still hadn’t forgiven Jennifer for giving away his gift, and now he wanted to make sure she learned a lesson.
Sarah hesitated. “Daniel, that’s… a little much. Don’t you think?”
But inside, she was grinning.
Asher sighed, thinking that since Jennifer had already acknowledged her mistake, it only seemed right for her to give
her room so Sarah could properly rest and recover.

After all, she could always switch back later.
Jennifer limped back to her room, wincing with every step as her ankle throbbed in pain.
But the ache was nothing compared to the emotional wounds she’d suffered in her past life.
The butler knocked on the door, his voice polite but firm. “Mr. Daniel Hargreaves has asked that you switch rooms with Ms. Campbell. Your room has better light, and it would be more

comfortable for her while she recovers.”

Jennifer’s face remained neutral. In her past life, she had been asked to do the same.
With a humorless smile, she replied, “Fine. I’ll pack my things.”
After the butler left, she quickly gathered her belongings and left the villa.
The party was still going on, the lights glowing brightly, but it all felt like a distant world to her now.
She had made her decision. It was time to leave the Hargreaves family behind for good.
The car ride was quiet. The driver glanced at her in the rearview mirror. “Where to?”
She paused, realizing she had nowhere else to go.
Then, an idea struck her. “Take me to King Villa.”
That was the home of her fiancé, who was ill and said to be dying.
But no matter how powerful the Hargreaves family wa
