Chapter 31 Guilt
Daniel shook his head in disbelief. “No way! That can’t be right!”
He thought to himself, “What’s so hard about traditional medicine?
Anyone can brew it, right?”
Amanda responded earnestly, “Actually, it’s quite a hassle. It all starts with selecting the right herbs, and then there’s the brewing process. The timing of adding each ingredient is crucial. Ms. Hargreaves used to oversee it all herself, sometimes standing by the stove for hours.”
Asher’s eyes widened in surprise. “I had no idea it was that complicated! I thought it was just a quick fix.”
He had been struggling with chronic migraines due to his hectic work schedule, trying countless medications without relief.
It was only when Jennifer found a remedy from an old traditional doctor that he finally experienced some relief.
Every time a migraine hit, the herbal concoction worked wonders.
Asher had grown accustomed to it over the years but never realized how much effort Jennifer put into preparing it.

The realization hit him hard; he felt a lump in his chest.

He had taken her efforts for granted, letting his own busyness blind him to the sacrifices she made.
This neglect over the years had driven a wedge between them.
Amanda continued, “And that’s not all. When Ms. Hargreaves first sought out that old doctor, she faced a lot of rejection. The guy has a notorious temper, and Ms. Hargreaves really went through the wringer to get that remedy.”
Asher felt a wave of guilt wash over him. “I really didn’t appreciate what Jennifer has done for us.”
Amanda said, “Mr. Asher Hargreaves, just because Ms. Hargreaves doesn’t talk about her contributions doesn’t mean she hasn’t made any. Unlike some people, who constantly need to broadcast their efforts to get noticed.”
Jennifer’s quiet concern for her brothers often went unnoticed simply because she wasn’t one to flaunt her feelings.
Sarah clenched her teeth, thinking, “This old woman is always targeting me.”
But on the surface, she maintained her smile, saying, “Asher, Em sure Jennifer will brew you some traditional medicine once she hears about your headaches.”
“If I could just learn how to make it myself, he wouldn’t need Jennifer at all!” she thought.

Asher glanced at Amanda with a hint of hope before saying, “It’s fine. I can tough it out.”
He knew Jennifer was likely sulking and wouldn’t be inclined to help him.
Deep down, he realized he owed her an apology but felt too proud to ask.
Daniel, feeling justified, turned to Amanda. “Make sure you remind Jennifer to get up early tomorrow to brew Asher’s medicine.”
Asher waved his hand dismissively. “No need for that. Jennifer just got back; let her rest a bit longer.”
Daniel insisted, “But Jennifer isn’t busy with anything, so what’s the big deal? You’ve been good to her all these years. You’ve worked himself to the bone for the family business, and she should pitch in!”
Amanda crossed her arms, her frustration bubbling over. “Mr. Daniel Hargreaves, that’s not fair! I won’t be the one to say it. You can tell her yourself.”
With that, Amanda stormed off, leaving Daniel to point at her retreating figure.
“See, Asher? Jennifer’s definitely been influenced by Amanda.”

Asher felt a simmering irritation as he walked away, feeling like no one had any sense of gratitude.
Daniel, also feeling a bit down, turned to Sarah. “By the way, about that new song you sent me yesterday. It didn’t really hit the mark. The company is looking for something more uplifting. Can you think of something else?”
“Sure, Daniel. I’ll put my thinking cap on,” Sarah replied, her own frustration evident.
Once back in her room, Sarah found herself staring at Jennifer’s belongings.
Curiosity got the better of her, and she rummaged through Jennifer’s desk. Sure enough, she stumbled upon some handwritten drafts.
After reading through them, Sarah snapped a quick photo before putting the papers back.
But then she hesitated, her resolve hardening. She pulled the drafts out again, tore them into pieces, and flushed them down the toilet.
“I won’t give up my place in the Hargreaves family that easily. I’ll make sure to take Jennifer’s spot.”

In the guest room, Jennifer lay on the bed, staring at her phone.
She hesitated, thinking, “Should I message Timothy and let him know I won’t be back tonight?
But if I do, it might seem like I’m assuming too much.
Timothy probably couldn’t care less where I am.”
She gazed at their WhatsApp chat, which had remained eerily silent since they had added each other as contacts.
Truth be told, it was only out of respect for Angelina that Timothy had accepted her friend request in the first place.
After mulling it over for a long time, she finally thought, “But if I say nothing, with Timothy’s personality, he might not let me in next time.”
With a sigh, she typed out a message: [Asher brought me back to: the Hargreaves Villa. I won’t be back tonight.]
As soon as she hit send, her heart began to race. She had no idea how Timothy would respond.
Meanwhile, at the King Villa, Timothy sat on the couch, his gaze drifting outward.
But it was the butler, Ryan Bates, who walked in.
Seizing the opportunity, Eric spoke up, “Mr. Clark, it’s about time Ms. Hargreaves returned. Should I arrange a car to fetch
