Jennifer looked up just in time to see a sleek black luxury car pull up across the street.
Eric stepped out and waved at her from the sidewalk.
Jennifer’s gaze drifted to the backseat of the car parked nearby. The windows were tinted so heavily that all she could make out was a vague silhouette.
She knew it was Timothy.
For some reason, her mood lifted instantly.
She nodded, about to head over, when the car suddenly made a U–turn and stopped right in front of her.
The window rolled down, revealing Timothy’s chiseled features.
He turned his head slightly to look at her.
Jennifer’s heart began to race uncontrollably as her eyes met his.
She hadn’t expected him to show up, but here he was.
“Jennifer, you can’t go with him,” Asher said urgently as soon as he saw Timothy.
A sense of foreboding washed over him.

He quickly got out of his own car and moved to Jennifer, grabbing her hand. “Come on, I’ll take you to school!”
But Jennifer stood her ground and pulled her hand away.

“Jennifer, don’t be difficult. I’ll take you to school so we don’t have to bother Mr. Clark. He’s a busy man, after all. Let’s not disturb him,” Asher said firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
He slipped his arm around hers, half–coaxing, half–threatening, “Come on, you’re going to be late.”
Jennifer resisted. “Asher, let go of me!”
“Jennifer, I’m doing this for your own good!”
Asher wasn’t about to let her get close to Timothy.
But suddenly, more than a dozen black–clad bodyguards appeared out of nowhere, surrounding Asher.
Timothy’s cold voice cut through the tension. “She said she doesn’t want to go with you. Let her go.”
Asher’s expression turned grim as he took in the sight of the armed guards. He looked at Jennifer, his eyes tinged with a warning. “Jennifer, even when you’re throwing a tantrum, there should be a limit.”
Jennifer met his gaze with a mocking smile.

“Then consider me someone without limits. Let go, or you’ll get hurt.”
Daniel stormed over, fury written all over his face. “Jennifer, what the hell is your problem? Who do you think you are, speaking to Asher like that?”
But before Daniel could get any closer, one of the bodyguards. threw a quick punch, sending him sprawling to the ground. He stayed there, unable to move for a good few seconds.
“Enough!”
Sarah rushed over, hurrying to Daniel’s side. “Daniel, are you okay? Jennifer, if you have any grudge, take it out on me. Asher and Daniel are innocent in all of this.”
Daniel struggled to his feet, looking disheveled. “Jennifer, if you think you can take me down with those bodyguards, go ahead! I dare you!”
Asher was shocked that the bodyguards had actually laid hands on Daniel.
Moreover, those guards were armed.
He adjusted his demeanor and looked at Jennifer, his voice softening. “Jennifer, you see how things are with Timothy. Coming with me is the best choice for you.”
Jennifer’s voice was ice–cold. “What’s best for me is for me to
Chapter 35 Back Her Up decide. Asher. Not you.”
She wrenched herself free from his grip and walked toward Timothy.
Asher watched her go, his head pounding with frustration. “Jennifer, you’ll regret this.”
Without a second glance, Jennifer climbed into the car. She wouldn’t regret her decision. Not for a second.
Timothy glanced at her, then nodded at the driver. “Drive.”
The car sped off, leaving the chaos behind.

Sarah rushed to Asher’s side, feigning concern. “Asher, are you alright?”
Asher, still reeling, glanced at Eric. “My sister’s temper has always been a bit… difficult. If she’s caused any trouble, I hope Mr. Clark can forgive her. I can come and fetch her anytime.”
Eric waved off Asher’s comment. “Mr. Asher Hargreaves, I think Ms. Hargreaves has quite a bit of restraint. If she seems angry, maybe it’s because of everything you’ve put her through.”
With a sarcastic remark, Eric left with those bodyguards trailing. behind him.
Sarah felt a mix of fear and shock as she replayed the scene in her mind. The extravagance of it all was almost too much to take
- in.

As she watched Jennifer get into the luxury car, a pang of jealousy twisted in her chest. She mused, “If it had been me who got engaged to Timothy instead of Jennifer, all of this would be mine, wouldn’t it?
Why does Jennifer deserve all of this?”
Asher, meanwhile, was clutching his head, a splitting headache taking over. He grabbed Sarah’s hand, his face etched with pain. “My head’s killing me. Do you have any more of that medicinal soup you made?”
He couldn’t shake the feeling that the soup hadn’t done a thing for him.
If anything, his headache had only gotten worse.
