Chapter 4 Kicking Her Out

Jennifer stood there with a calm yet commanding presence, her expression unshaken.
The bodyguard picked up his walkie–talkie and said a few words in a low voice.
Moments later, the butler Ryan walked out, clearly surprised to see her. “Ms. Hargreaves, what brings you here so late? Is something wrong?”
“I’m here to be with my fiance,” Jennifer said matter–of–factly, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Ryan froze, caught off guard by her bluntness.
She casually touched her nose, then continued, “Didn’t Madam Clark want me to build a connection with him? You know, maybe have a baby? How else am I supposed to make her happy if we don’t live together?”
Ryan hesitated, glancing nervously toward the second floor.
Jennifer followed his gaze, though she couldn’t see anything.
She assumed Timothy was likely up
there.
Indeed, Timothy sat by the window in his wheelchair, looking down at the woman outside.
Jennifer’s evening
bruised. She looked a mess.
The assistant spoke quietly. “Sir, we heard there was a birthday party at the Hargreaves family tonight, it was for the adopted girl. Ms. Hargreaves must have had some kind of conflict and left home.”
Timothy’s face remained expressionless. “Tell her to leave.”
He wasn’t running a charity here.
The assistant quickly passed on his message to Ryan.
Ryan, after receiving the news, turned back to Jennifer with an apologetic smile. “Ms. Hargreaves, Mr. Clark prefers to keep his distance from people he doesn’t know well. Perhaps you could find a hotel for the night?”
Jennifer’s lips curled into a knowing smile. She understood what was being implied.
So, Timothy was still as heartless as ever.
But this time, she wasn’t going anywhere.
Clearing her throat, she suddenly raised her voice. “Help! My fiancé is kicking me out! Is that how little I mean to him?”
Ryan’s eyes widened in panic. “Ms. Hargreaves, please, don’t make a scene! This really isn’t necessary.”

Upstairs, Timothy’s brows furrowed in irritation, his cold demeanor only sharpening.
The assistant cautiously spoke. “If Ms. Hargreaves continues making a scene, Madam Clark might hear about it. Maybe it’s better to let her in and see what she wants?”

Timothy shot him a cold glance. “You really know how to handle things.”
With a flick of his wrist, he turned his wheelchair away.
But the assistant smiled to himself, knowing Timothy had tacitly agreed.
Soon, Jennifer was led into the villa’s spacious living room.
She glanced around, taking in the cold, minimalist design. It felt empty, lifeless.
Honestly, it was her first time here at King Villa, and she wasn’t impressed.
She sat down on the sofa, but no one bothered to acknowledge her presence.
Her stomach growled loudly, and her eyes drifted toward the table full of fruit and snacks.
Looking around to make sure no one was watching, she quietly snuck over and grabbed a piece of fruit, then a pastry.

After eating a few, she carefully put everything back just as she found it, trying to cover up her little snack.
Suddenly, she heard a cough.
Startled, Jennifer jumped up, wincing as the pain shot through her injured ankle.
She looked up and saw Timothy sitting in a wheelchair. His features were sharp and perfectly chiseled, his expression cold but strangely composed, as if he were made of stone.
She hadn’t seen much of him in her past life. Even though they were engaged, she had spent more time with his grandmother than with him.
The man was distant, hard to read, and always seemed to be in a bad mood.
Swallowing her nervousness, Jennifer steeled herself. “Mr. Clark, I just need to stay for a few days. Don’t worry, I won’t cause any trouble, and I won’t… do anything inappropriate!”
As soon as she spoke, she felt the temperature in the room drop.
Timothy’s cold eyes locked onto her, and he said nothing.
Jennifer felt herself squirm under his intense gaze.
Finally, he spoke in a low, emotionless voice. “That’s not why you’re really here.”

She bit her lip but couldn’t back down. “I swear, it’s just for a few days. Madam Clark keeps asking about us, and I’m sure she’ll come here soon to bug you. If I stay, it’ll look like things are progressing between us, and she won’t keep pressing. What do you think?”
“Ryan, show her out.”

Ryan came out, looking awkward. “Ms. Hargreaves, Mr. Clark could be difficult sometimes. It’s too late now. Maybe try again tomorrow.”
Jennifer, without anywhere else to go, noticed a small house in the yard.

Her eyes brightened. “I’ll just make do and stay there for the night.”
“Ms. Hargreaves, you can’t! That’s the doghouse!”
