Chapter 42 She Can’t Have a Child Alone
Jennifer was stunned by Angelina’s words.

The thought that she would have to sleep here tonight, sharing the same room with Timothy, sent her heart racing.
“How could this be happening?
I never imagined in either this life or the last that I would end up in the same room with Timothy–much less sharing a bed!
I can’t even bear to picture it!”
At that moment, the restaurant fell into an uncomfortable silence.
Millie shot Jennifer a complex glance but ultimately chose to remain silent.
Acacius smirked. “Mom, they may be engaged, but they’re not married yet. Isn’t this a bit inappropriate?”
Millie quickly interjected, “Inappropriate? Not at all! Everyone knows Jennifer is my son’s fiancée and will one day be his wife. It’s just that we haven’t set a date yet. If she happens to get pregnant early, it would be a double blessing for the Clark family!”

“Acacius, what do you mean by that?” Millie snapped, unable to contain her anger.
After all, her son was a touchy subject.
Trying to ease the tension, Jennifer gently held Millie’s hand and said, “Mrs. Millie Clark, Uncle Acacius may not know about Timothy’s health, but I certainly do. As for kids, we haven’t really thought about that yet.”
Acacius narrowed his eyes. “Ms. Hargreaves, do you know that lying comes with consequences?”
Jennifer blinked innocently. “Uncle Acacius, it seems like you don’t want to hear news of me having a baby with Timothy. Shouldn’t that actually make you happy?”
Acacius put down his fork. “It would indeed be good news, and I’ll be waiting for that announcement.”
“Thank you for your well wishes, Uncle Acacius. We’ll do our best to make sure you’re pleased,” Jennifer replied, a smile still on her face, refusing to show any signs of fear.
Timothy turned his head, casting a thoughtful glance at Jennifer.
He sensed that this girl was far from fragile.

While she pretended to be scared and timid earlier, she was now revealing her own sharpness.
Angelina grinned. “Oh, I love hearing what you have to say, Jennifer! When the good news comes around, I’ll be ready with a big gift for you both!”
Acacius glanced at his mother, his expression inscrutable, while Millie felt a flicker of joy at seeing Acacius uncomfortable.
Jennifer kept her head down, focusing on her meal, but she could feel Acacius‘ eyes on her, and they didn’t seem pleased one bit.
She thought, “So what if he’s unhappy?
It’s obvious that Acacius and Mary are slippery as eels, always knowing how to play the game. Timothy’s mother doesn’t stand a chance against Mary.
No wonder people are saying Acacius is the real heir.
Those rumors aren’t coming out of thin air.
But if I get pregnant, the dynamics will shift completely. After all, it’s plain to see that Madam Clark favors Timothy. It’s as clear as day. Even a blind person could tell.
Acacius probably can’t stand the sight of me.”
As they finished their meal, Angelina said, “Jennifer, why don’t

you head up to your room and see if you need anything? Timothy, come with me; I have something to discuss with you.”
Jennifer obediently nodded, and after they left, she took her cane and carefully made her way to the exit.
Acacius called after her, “Ms. Hargreaves, I didn’t expect you to have such a hearty appetite.”
Jennifer shot back slowly. “Never been one to complain about food. As the saying goes, eating well is a blessing.”
Acacius replied, “You’re being naïve. The Clark family’s issues can’t just be resolved by having a kid.”
“What are you talking about kids? We were just discussing my appetite, weren’t we?” Jennifer feigned ignorance, dodging the question.
Once Acacius stormed off in frustration, Millie looked at Jennifer and said, “If you really could give birth to a child, I might just begrudgingly accept you.”
Jennifer lowered her gaze. “That’s not a decision I can make on my own.”
In her mind, she thought, “How could Timothy possibly have a child with me?
I just said that to get under Acacius‘ skin.”
Jennifer leaned on her cane and climbed the stairs to her room.

Upon entering, she was greeted by an arrangement that looked eerily similar to a wedding night setup.
“Madam Clark’s intentions couldn’t be any clearer,” she
pondered to herself.
