Chapter 43 We Won’t Have Any Children
Jennifer hadn’t expected Angelina to move so quickly–the bedroom was all set up as if waiting for her.
She stood there, looking at the bedroom, her emotions tangled.
In her previous life, Jennifer had stayed over at Angelina’s request, too, but Timothy never came back that night. She hadn’t had a chance to be alone with him then.
The maid said, “Mrs. Clark, if you need anything, don’t hesitate to call me.”
“Thank you,” Jennifer replied politely.
Once the maid had left, Jennifer sat down on the bed and rubbed her ankle.
“I’m still in a cast. Did Madam Clark even consider how inconvenient this all is? Neither Timothy nor I can exactly… well, have a child in this state, can we?
People always say the older generation is conservative, but honestly, the old lady seems to be thinking a bit ahead of her time.
Just look at this room.”

Her eyes fell on the slip dress lying on the bed–a flimsy piece of lace with straps so thin, they were practically invisible.
Jennifer picked it up, running her fingers over the delicate fabric. “Not bad quality, actually.”
Just as she was inspecting the dress, Timothy walked into the
room.
His gaze landed on the dress in her hand, and his expression. darkened. The fabric was undeniably… provocative.
His eyes narrowed slightly, and Jennifer could see his throat bob as he swallowed. “What are you doing?” Timothy asked.
“N… nothing. Madam Clark prepared it. I was just… curious. I’ve never worn something like this before, okay?” Jennifer stammered, her face flushing red as she dropped the dress back onto the bed.
Timothy got closer, his gaze sweeping over the changed room. He wasn’t surprised in the least.
“We won’t have any children,” he said flatly.
Jennifer looked at his profile. “I know. The things I said in the dining room were to provoke your uncle. They deserve it. The whole family is insufferable.”
Timothy said, “As long as you help me keep Grandma happy, I’ll provide financial support. But don’t get any ideas beyond that.”

Chapter 43 We Won’t Have Any Children Jennifer met his gaze, her own eyes steady. “Don’t worry. I’m very good at playing my part, especially when the pay is right. Madam Clark won’t suspect a thing.”
In her heart, Jennifer had one goal: to make as much money as possible and finally free herself from the Hargreaves family.
Timothy studied her for a moment before speaking again, “One year. After that, I’ll give you your freedom.”
“Deal,” Jennifer said quickly.
One year would be more than enough time to reclaim everything she had lost to the Hargreaves family.
Jennifer hesitated for a moment before adding, “Since we’re partners, can I make a small request?”
Timothy raised an eyebrow, his tone dripping with condescension. “Go ahead.”
Jennifer took a deep breath. “Since we’re in a contract marriage, how about we agree not to interfere in each other’s personal affairs? When we’re here, I don’t want to be a doormat. If your uncle’s family tries to push me around, I won’t just stand there and take it. If a conflict arises, you’ll need to back me up.”
She’d been a doormat long enough in her previous life. Jennifer wasn’t about to let it happen again.
Timothy raised an eyebrow. “Is that all?”

He thought she would make some tricky demands.
Jennifer blinked. “Should I add a few more conditions?”

“You’re asking for too much,” Timothy said dismissively, turning away from her.
“Wait!” Jennifer called out.
Timothy paused and looked back at her, saying nothing.
“Um, I don’t really want to wear what your grandmother provided. Can I borrow something of yours instead?” she asked, her voice small but determined.
She mused, “I’ve never worn anything like this in front of a
grown man.
There’s no way I’m starting now.”
Timothy’s expression turned slightly awkward, though he tried to hide it. “I suggest you wear it for now.”
“Why?”
“To avoid blowing our cover.”
In that instant, Jennifer understood what he was implying.
She mused, “Could it be that Madam Clark is going to check up on us? Surely, it’s not that dramatic, right?”

Chapter 43 We Won’t Have Any Children Timothy turned his wheelchair towards her. “You bath first, or
me?”
Jennifer quickly responded, “After you.”
She needed a moment to process everything.
Timothy headed into the bathroom. Her nerves kicked into overdrive. “Am I really supposed to wear this sleep dress?”
As Jennifer debated the question in her mind, she heard a noise from the bathroom.
“You alright in there?” she called out, her voice tinged with
concern.
“Fine.”
But just as the word left his lips, a louder crash echoed from the bathroom.
Jennifer hobbled over on her crutches and pushed the door open. There, she found Timothy sprawled on the floor next to the bathtub, barely clothed, his arm braced against the floor, veins standing out on his muscular arms.
She hadn’t expected someone so slender to be so well–built.
