Chapter 206 Settling Scores
Jennifer was surprised to see Jason. She asked, “Why are you here?”
“I had a feeling I should come to check. I’m really sorry about the media circus. I never meant for things to get so out of hand.”
Jennifer was also agitated. “Neither did I.”
But with Mary pulling strings behind the scenes, there was only so much Jason could do.
After all, celebrities were powerless against capital.
Jason got out of the car and opened the door. “Where are you headed? Let me drive you.”
“No, thank you. I think it’s better if we keep our distance.”
Jennifer took a step back. She didn’t want to get entangled with Jason again and make things more complicated.
“Jennifer, I genuinely want to make amends. You’ve left King Villa with nowhere to go. I should take responsibility, right? After all, this is my fault. Trust me, I’ll be careful this time.”
Jennifer hesitated, “Forget it. I’ll take a cab. I’m not homeless.”
“Do you still want to go back to the Hargreaves Villa?”
Jason snatched Jennifer’s suitcase. “I know your relationship. with your family is strained. Going back there will only lead to more grief.”
“What are you doing?”
Jennifer didn’t really want to go with Jason, but he pushed her into the car. “Get in. What if the paparazzi catch us?”
Reluctantly, Jennifer got into the car and glanced at King Villa from the rearview mirror.
She was worried that Timothy might misunderstand if he saw this.
She thought she was overthinking it. How could Timothy care about this?
Jennifer laughed at herself mockingly. The media would soon issue a statement to clarify the situation.
It didn’t matter anyway.
After all, her initial purpose for coming to King Villa was to get Timothy to cancel his collaboration with the Hargreaves family.
Now that she had achieved her goal, there was no need for her to stay at King Villa.
But somehow, she wasn’t feeling good.
worry. I’ll find a way to explain everything.
“Thanks, but it’s not necessary.
She had already contacted the media, and they would clear things up.
That would be more effective than any explanation Jason could give.
Jason misunderstood Jennifer’s meaning. He thought, “Has the Clark family cast Jennifer out now, so she feels there’s no need. to clarify?”
This was good news for him.
Jason comforted Jennifer. “So, you and the Clark family are done for good?”
“Yeah, it’s over. Our engagement is off. It won’t be long before the media announces it.”
Jennifer rolled down the window, trying to let the breeze disperse her irritation.
Jason smiled. “Congratulations on being single. You can focus on your career now. No one can restrict or interfere with you anymore.”
“You have a point.”
nnier stopped thinking about Timothy
She needed to start her life anew, After all, she and Timothy were from two different worlds.
Jason continued. “How about I take you out for a meal? We can celebrate it.”
“No, thank you. It’s not suitable for us to appear in public places right now. It might make things harder to explain later.”
Jennifer thought it was better to be cautious.
Jason’s plan fell through. He feigned concern and said, “So. where do you plan to stay? I have a free apartment. You can stay there for a while. No one will know.”
“No, thank you. I plan to go back to the Hargreaves Villa.”
Jason probed, “From what I’ve heard, the Hargreaves family hasn’t been kind to you. Everyone saw what happened with the song. Going back there, you’ll only be used.”
He believed the Hargreaves family wouldn’t want to dissolve the engagement.
If Jennifer went back, she might be persuaded or threatened into continuing the engagement, and his plans would be ruined.
Jennifer’s eyes held a hint of mockery. “They can’t use me.”
She was going back to reclaim what was hers.

Seeing that Jennifer had made up her mind, Jason didn’t try to persuade her further, lest he provoke her.
He dropped Jennifer off at the Hargreaves Villa. “Ms. Hargreaves, I suppose we’re friends now? If you run into any Trouble, just give me a call. I’m always here for you.”
Jennifer found his words a bit odd.
She nodded awkwardly. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
Jason stood by the car, watching Jennifer drag her suitcase towards the villa before he drove away.
Jennifer dragged her suitcase to the front door. She entered her birthdate as the password, but it showed an error.
How could that be?
The password had always been her birthday, and it had never changed.
James approached and said, “Mr. Clark has instructed that
since you’ve declared you want to sever lies with the Hargreaves family, you’re no longer part of it.”
