Chapter 240 Settle the Score
As soon as Jennifer grabbed her phone, she sensed something
was off.
She had specifically restored the call log, and sure enough, Timothy had called, and Sarah had answered.
At that moment, she had been locked in the basement.
Asher glanced over, curiosity flickering in his eyes. “What did she do?”
“She took Timothy’s call and lied to him. She went to great lengths to get engaged to him, and she deceived all of you in the process.”
Asher hesitated before replying, “Maybe she just answered the phone.”
“I have the recording.”
Jennifer pressed play, and the sound of Sarah’s conversation with Timothy filled the room.
When Daniel heard it, his expression darkened. “I can’t believe Sarah would lie like that. None of us had a clue.”
Jennifer shot Asher a knowing look, half–smiling. “So, do you believe it now?”
Asher was momentarily speechless, stunned by Sarah’s audacity to play both sides.
Daniel’s anger flared. “Asher, I’ve told you before that Sarah’s character is questionable. She’s not who we thought she was.”
Now that Daniel had seen Sarah’s true colors, he felt betrayed.
After all, he had been badly burned by her deceit. Years of manipulation had cost him not just his relationship with Jennifer but also his career.
All of it was Sarah’s fault–the master of lies.
Rubbing his temples, Asher sank onto the couch. “Maybe Sarah was just trying to protect the Hargreaves family’s interests in the merger with the Clark family.”
“Asher, are you seriously defending her? If she can lie to us now, what’s to stop her from lying about something else later?”
Daniel was done trusting Sarah.
Asher looked up at Jennifer. “What do you want to do?”
Just then, Sarah came down the stairs, having seen Timothy’s car pull away.
She had planned to complain to Asher but was surprised to find Jennifer in the living room.

“Daniel, what’s going on?”
Noticing the tension in the air, Sarah felt uneasy.
She mused. “Is everything okay? I thought Timothy and Jennifer were back together.”

“And the Hargreaves family isn’t facing bankruptcy anymore, so what’s the issue?”
Daniel cut to the chase. “Sarah, I need to ask you something. When Jennifer was locked in the basement, did you mess with her phone?”
Sarah paused, caught off guard. “Daniel, I just helped by picking it up. I didn’t touch her phone.”
“You’re lying. Didn’t you answer Timothy’s call?”
After a moment of hesitation, Sarah admitted, “I did answer once, but I didn’t say much.”
Jennifer pressed, her voice icy. “If you didn’t say anything, why delete the call log? You told me Timothy agreed to let you take my place at the Hargreaves family dinner. That was a lie, too, wasn’t it?”
With her deception exposed, Sarah felt her composure slipping. “I… I said that for the good of the Hargreaves family.”

“For the good of the Hargreaves family? More like for your own benefit!”
Sarah retorted, “Seriously, I was thinking of the Hargreaves family. You were determined to break off your engagement with him. That would have been a disaster for the Hargreaves family. I just wanted you to reconsider. There are plenty of people willing to marry Timothy.”
After saying this, she shot a glance at Asher. “Asher, I really thought I was helping!”
Asher nodded slowly, contemplating her words. “Jennifer, this is all in the past. You and Mr. Clark are back together now.”
“Past? Timothy doesn’t even know about me being locked in the basement. If he finds out, do you really think he’ll just let it slide?”
There was a clear threat in Jennifer’s voice.
Asher pressed his lips, turning to glare at Sarah. “Who gave you the right to lie to Mr. Clark? Did you ever consider the consequences of getting caught?”
Sarah looked hurt. “I was just trying to help the Hargreaves family! Besides, I didn’t say anything that bad.”
In her mind, Jennifer had no evidence against her.
Jennifer stepped forward, her voice steady. “Are you really going to keep lying?”

“I didn’t say anything, Jennifer! I know you’re upset with me, but you can’t just throw accusations around.”
“Wow, you really don’t get it until you’re staring at the grave, do you?”
Without missing a beat, Jennifer pulled up the restored call recording and played it for everyone to hear.
When Sarah heard the conversation, her face drained of color. “That’s impossible! I clearly…”
Jennifer’s gaze was icy as she stared Sarah down. “You clearly deleted it, didn’t you? But it’s not gone forever.”
“A lie is a lie, and it will eventually come to light.”
Sarah’s forehead broke out in a cold sweat, and she stammered, looking at Asher for help, “Asher, I…I was just trying to…”
“Shut up!”
Asher could see that Sarah had been lying deliberately, probably trying to provoke Jennifer, which had backfired and made Jennifer jealous, leading to her reconciliation with Timothy.
It wasn’t entirely Sarah’s fault, but that didn’t excuse her actions.
He took a deep breath and said, “Jennifer, how do you want to handle this?”

“It’s simple. I want Sarah out of the Hargreaves family!”
That was her demand.
