Chapter 244 Prove It
Jennifer stood with icy resolve, watching as Sarah, her legs trembling, hesitant to get down.

Pouring salt on the wound, Jennifer sneered, “All it would take is a simple apology. Do that, and not only will I let this slide, but I’ll also ensure our alliance with the Clark family stays intact.”
From the sidelines, Daniel, reveling in the drama, chimed in with a smug grin. “Come on, Sarah. You’ve been sweet–talking us for ages. Why haven’t you gotten down yet? Or were you just feeding us a bunch of lies?”
“I’m not lying, Daniel.”
“Prove it then. Words are easy; actions are something else entirely.”
With a grimace of pure reluctance, Sarah finally collapsed to get down before Jennifer. “I’m sorry,” she muttered through gritted teeth.
Jennifer savored the moment as she watched Sarah, with all her usual arrogance, forced to swallow her pride and get down.
For years, she’d never seen Sarah so thoroughly humiliated. It was a victory long overdue.
“Don’t think this is over,” Jennifer warned in a dangerously

calm tone. “If you play these games again, I’ll make sure you regret every word you’ve spoken.”
Previously, Sarah would only ever talk big, but she never actually followed through with her words.
Yet her brothers always seemed blind to that fact, seeing her as the obedient, sensible one while Jennifer was the one making real sacrifices.
In this lifetime, she decided to stand by and watch, vowing not to interfere in the affairs of the Hargreaves family ever again.
She wanted to see how long her brothers would stand by Sarah when Sarah inevitably dragged the family down with her.
A deep blush of shame crept across Sarah’s face as she cursed Jennifer inwardly.
She could feel the weight of everyone’s gaze on her as she got down before Jennifer like a servant. The humiliation was unbearable, and she feared for her place in the Hargreaves family from that moment on.
Asher, ever the peacemaker, tried to defuse the situation. “Sarah, get up. Since you’ve apologized, we should put this behind us.”
Jennifer argued, “Absolutely, we’re done with Sarah tampering with my phone. But when it comes to her trying to snatch my fiancé away from me? Oh, that’s etched in my memory.”

Asher was quick to defend Sarah. “Jennifer, Sarah didn’t do anything wrong. You were the one who wanted to call off the engagement.”

“But you brought it up in front of my fiancé’s mother, and she shot it down. Now, it’s going to be the laughingstock of the
town.”
At her words, Asher’s expression had turned sour.
She continued, “The word on the street will be that the Hargreaves family clings to the Clark family’s partnership with such mercenary and greed, pushing their adopted daughter to replace me.”
It was at that moment Asher started to sense a twinge of regret, realizing that the choice might not have been the wisest after all.
Sarah shouted, “But Asher was only thinking of the family’s best interest!”
Jennifer sneered, “Go ahead and explain that to everyone outside.”
With that, she spun on her heel and strode out of Hargreaves Villa.
Being cooped up in Hargreaves Villa for the last few days meant she couldn’t attend school; she was certain Asher had taken care of requesting a leave for her.
But she needed to check in at her studio.
Once the door closed behind her, an awkward silence settled.
over the room.
Asher felt a gnawing sense of regret. The idea of Sarah stepping into Jennifer’s role would surely become a source of humiliation once it spread beyond these walls.
品
Now, with Jennifer and Timothy reconciled, the damage to the Hargreaves family’s reputation seemed irreparable.
Daniel spoke up, his tone dripping with sarcasm, “Asher, wasn’t it you who preached about making peace with Jennifer, talking about how we mistreated her before and needed to make things right? But you locked her in the basement to keep the company’s interests safe. Don’t you regret it now?”
Asher was now beginning to feel the pangs of regret.
But with Sarah present, he couldn’t openly admit it. He responded instead, “I did it for our family. Jennifer will understand one day.”
Daniel, however, didn’t see it that way. After everything that had happened before, he could see clearly that Jennifer was slowly but surely drawing a line between herself and the Hargreaves family.
It dawned on him that the dependency was reversed; it was not Jennifer who needed the Hargreaves family but the Hargreaves family who desperately needed her.

Now, he was consumed with regret, cursing himself for having been fooled by Sarah. That deception had not only caused him to snap at Jennifer, driving her out but also inadvertently led her to compose music for his fiercest competitor.
He was utterly remorseful.
Jennifer, meanwhile, headed straight to her studio.
The past few days felt like a surreal dream.
It never crossed her mind that she would find herself entangled with the Hargreaves family, much less be confined to their basement, grappling with the brink of survival.
What was even more surprising to her was the eventual mending of fences with Timothy.
Her thoughts drifted to the wild sex they had shared the previous night, and a warm flush crept across her cheeks.
She pulled up to the studio.
Upon exiting the vehicle, she, out of habit, surveyed the area until her gaze landed on a questionable car idling by the curb.
She approached the car and tapped on the window.
After a moment, the glass rolled down to reveal a flustered face. “What’s up?”

“You’re back at it? The lesson from last time when you were busted snapping photos wasn’t enough? Ready for round two?”
Jennifer identified them instantly; they were the paparazzi who had captured her with Jason during their previous encounter.
“Ms. Hargreaves, this is what we do for a living. We did clarify the situation with you and Jason as you asked, but there’s still some heat on the story. We’re just trying to keep up with the trend, write some pieces, and earn our keep.”
She glanced at the paparazzi. “Wait a little longer. Timothy is due to swing by and pick me up when I’m done here.”
“He’s coming to pick you up personally?”
“Yes. And since you’ve cleared up the last mess, is there a problem with us being together now?”
She threw a pointed look at the paparazzi. “Just remember, if you decide to cook up any more nonsense, I won’t play nice. I’ve got a feeling your records aren’t exactly spotless. Trust me, your boss won’t be so forgiving.”
With that, she turned on her heel and marched into the studio, leaving the paparazzi in stunned silence.
Upon spotting Jennifer, Keily sneered, “Well, look who’s finally decided to show up. I thought you’d be in hiding after getting dumped by the Clark family.”
