Chapter 312 A Fallback Plan

Sarah’s eyes flared red with anger. She had been so focused on dealing with Jennifer that she had completely neglected the looming homework. She thought, “I can just get someone to help with the design.”
It had always been Jennifer who did her assignments. But now. that Jennifer was out of the picture, did that mean she was on her own?
Vivian, sharp as ever, seemed to see right through Sarah’s plan and added, “The rules for this final exam have changed. I expect everyone to create their designs on the spot rather than submitting pre–done work.”
The announcement hit like a bomb. A few students immediately started to whimper, realizing what this meant.
Jennifer, too, was caught off guard but quickly composed herself.
It wouldn’t affect her much, but for Sarah, this was a disaster.
Sarah’s face twisted with anxiety. She knew better than anyone just how poorly she stacked up.
For years, it had been Jennifer who did all her design work, and she had always earned the teacher’s praise.

But now, Jennifer refused to even sketch a design for her.

If she were called upon to create a design during the live exam, she’d be utterly incapable, and her deception would be laid bare for all to see.
“Ms. Hoover, there’s no way we can finish a design in the time given!” Sarah blurted out in desperation.
She had made up her mind; she would staunchly refuse to produce any design drawings when the on–site exam came around.
When Jennifer caught sight of Sarah’s anxious expression, she understood Sarah’s fears all too well. After all, for the past two years, it was Jennifer who had been doing the assignments.
She knew exactly what Sarah was capable of, or rather, what she wasn’t capable of.
In her previous life, Jennifer had done more than just homework for Sarah. Jennifer had even written Sarah’s graduation thesis, selected the topic, and gathered all the research.
At that time, Jennifer had been working on her own thesis, but then, out of the blue, Sarah had a change of heart and demanded. to take over the thesis Jennifer was crafting.
Jennifer had poured her heart and soul into this research. There was no way she was willing to just hand it over.

But ultimately, under pressure from her brothers, she found herself nodding in reluctant agreement, surrendering all her hard–earned research to Sarah. Consequently, Jennifer couldn’t submit her own graduation thesis, facing not only her teacher’s reprimand but also a delay in her graduation.
During that time, while all her brothers were toasting to Sarah’s graduation, no one spared a thought for Jennifer’s deferred academic milestone.
Reflecting on the injustices of her past life, Jennifer turned icy, a chill settling in her eyes.
But this time around, she was eager to witness how Sarah would manage to graduate successfully.
Jennifer turned to face Sarah. “There’s no issue with drawing the designs on the spot. The exams used to be done this way before. Ms. Hoover has simply been more lenient with us. But it doesn’t mean her request is unreasonable.”
Flushed with frustration, Sarah retorted, “I never said Ms. Hoover was wrong. I just pointed out that we’re running out of time.”
“If there isn’t enough time, it means you weren’t prepared,” Jennifer argued coolly. “But Ms. Hoover can give us advance notice. Once we’re ready, we can create the designs on the spot. It’s really not that complicated.”
Vivian nodded in agreement. “Exactly. That’s precisely my plan. You’ll have a day to complete the designs, and then you’ll

present your concepts on stage. I’ll grade them on the spot.”
Sarah’s heart sank. If the scores were given on the spot, there would be no way to hide her failure.
She glared at Jennifer and Vivian, the realization hitting her like a punch to the gut. “They’re in cahoots, setting me up to fail,” she thought.
Sarah stood up abruptly and yelled, “I disagree! This is unfair. ‘Designs can’t be done in one go. Not everyone is as talented ast Jennifer. Some of us need days, even weeks, to finish and revise our work. One day isn’t enough time. This is completely unjust!”
Following her statement, there were individuals rallying to her defense.
After all, their academic performance had always been subpar. If they submitted design drawings in private, there was room for deceit, but drawing on the spot left no margin for cheating.
Naturally, their scores would plummet under such scrutiny. Who in their right mind would want that?
Vivian slammed her hand on the table. “This is my decision. We’ll see how things unfold.”
But Sarah wasn’t done. “What if we can’t complete the painting in one day? Does that mean we fail the course?” she added.
She consistently felt the need to have a fallback plan at the ready.
