Jennifer found herself avoiding his gaze, worried he might catch the flutter in her heart.
When she’d mentioned having someone special in her past, Timothy’s expression had darkened.
His mind wandered to that guy Jennifer once admitted to having feelings for–the one who’d moved abroad and never looked back. His team had dug that much up.
The mood in the room shifted, growing heavier by the second.
Jennifer picked up on his change in demeanor and quickly tried to steer the conversation elsewhere. “Hey, you still haven’t told me what went down after I passed out yesterday.”
“Just did some digging into what happened,” Timothy replied, keeping his voice carefully neutral.
“That’s it?”
Timothy nodded. “That’s it.”

Jennifer wasn’t buying it. “I could’ve sworn I heard gunshots… You got physical, didn’t you?”
Thought she sounded casual, she really wanted to know what happened that day.
She needed the full picture–especially for dealing with the Hargreaves family down the line. After all, Timothy had stuck his neck out for her.
Plus, Millie was bound to come asking questions, and Jennifer refused to let Timothy take all the blame alone.
He’d done it all for her–she knew that much.
But despite her prodding, Timothy kept his cool. “Nothing serious went down.” He shrugged it off. “Just fired a few warning shots to keep them in check.”
Jennifer wasn’t buying a word of it.
She turned to Timothy’s secretary, getting straight to the point. “Why don’t you tell me what really went down that day?”
At this point, she’d given up on getting the truth from Timothy himself.
That was just his style–always keeping things brief, bare minimum with the details.

He’d never volunteer to mention all those things Jennifer was dying to know.
The secretary stepped forward after being put on the spot, but not before shooting a careful glance at Timothy. After all, they couldn’t spill the boss‘ business without the green light.
Timothy gave a slight nod. “Go ahead, tell her.”
Timothy was a man of few words.
In his mind, none of this was a big deal, but if Jennifer wanted the full story, then let her have it.
After getting Timothy’s go–ahead, the secretary carefully laid out everything that went down that day.
Jennifer’s heart nearly stopped when she heard about Timothy pulling a gun, ready to kill.
She glanced over at him, realizing her hazy memories from that day weren’t just her imagination. She’d really heard what she thought she heard.
In the end, it was Asher showing up with Angelina that kept everything from going completely off the rails. No one ended up dead.
It made sense. At that moment, Angelina was probably the only person on Earth who could’ve talked Timothy down from that ledge.

Timothy caught her look of relief, and his expression darkened. “What’s with that face? Disappointed I didn’t finish Dylan off?”
Jennifer shook her head. “That’s not what I meant at all.”
Timothy sighed, “Honestly? I’m kicking myself about it too. If I’d acted sooner, nol even Grandma showing up could’ve changed anything.” His voice carried a hint of regret. After all, no one could bring back the dead.
Jennifer stared at the man beside her, stunned. She’d never pegged him as someone who could talk about murder as casually as discussing what to have for lunch.
Maybe she didn’t know Timothy nearly as well as she’d thought.
Timothy picked up on her shift in expression, and his voice dropped to a low murmur. “What’s wrong? Scared now that you’re seeing the real me?”
“What’s there to be scared of? Everything you did was because of me,” Jennifer smiled.
From the incident at Kinglet Villa to this latest showdown at the research facility–he’d gone way off script, breaking all the rules for her.
Nobody in their right mind would normally dare to challenge the Clarks like that.

Jennifer turned away. “Sarah was stuck in that research facility instead of getting rushed to the hospital. With that drug in her system… she must have been in absolute agony.”
