It was probably not so. Michelle tugged at the corner of her lips, feeling a bit self-
deprecating.
Half an hour later, she followed Anya back to the Diesel family home. As soon as she stepped inside, she saw a pair of pink slippers.
“Kenneth knew you were coming back, so he prepared your everyday home supplies early. These slippers are what he got for you. Try them on to see if they fit well.” Anya said.
Michelle lowered her eyes and silently slipped into the pink slippers. They were very
comfortable and warm.
“You’re back! Come wash your hands and get

ready for dinner!” someone said.
Michelle turned her gaze in the direction of the voice and saw a man busy in the kitchen. He didn’t even turn around but still called
them over for dinner.
Everything felt so natural. As if they had been living together for ten years.
Michelle observed quietly and suddenly realized that at this moment, she felt like a stranger cautiously entering someone’s mansion, almost instinctively feeling as if she
wasn’t wanted. Her heart sank with self-
mockery.
The ten years of being unloved had truly left their mark and now, even in her own home, she still subconsciously felt unwanted.
Seeing that Michelle hadn’t moved, Anya

simply took her hand and led her to the
dining table. She chuckled softly, “Your brother’s cooking skills are top–notch. Too bad he’s so busy that I have to make an appointment in advance even when I want to eat his dishes.”
Michelle felt somewhat stiff and was still unaccustomed to the sudden wave of happiness. She nodded silently.
When Kenneth brought the food out, Michelle finally saw his appearance clearly.
At nearly 188 cm, his aloof–looking eyebrows and eyes, high nose bridge and thin lips,
coupled with the stark pink apron, made him look like a character straight out of a novel, a reserved male lead.
“Do I have something on my face?” Kenneth

suddenly leaned close to her, making her
jump slightly.
Michelle quickly withdrew her gaze and replied faintly, “No.”
Kenneth’s lips curled into a slight smile and the aloof aura around his eyes vanished instantly, replaced by a warm expression, “You’re too thin. Eat more.”
By the end of the meal, Michelle finally understood what it felt like to be full.
This was mainly because Kenneth had kept adding food to her plate. She felt too shy to refuse and accepted it all, only to feel overly stuffed by the time she went to bed.
As she lay in bed, Michelle’s tense nerves finally relaxed. This kind of family and life seemed quite nice.

At least now, she had people who truly loved
her by her side. Thinking this, Michelle drifted into a light sleep and woke up naturally, something rare for her.
The next morning, as she came downstairs, she saw Kenneth already sitting at the dining table, waiting for her to have breakfast. She felt a slight flush on her cheeks.
“Did I get up too late?” she asked shyly.
“No,” Kenneth replied, pulling her chair out for her with a warm smile in his eyes. “This is your home. You can sleep as long as you want. Don’t worry about being late.”
Michelle’s heart trembled. Those two words, “your home‘, seemed to possess some magical power, deeply stirring her heart and her eyes started to feel sore. Yes, this was her real

home.
“Why are you about to cry?” Kenneth, seeing her eyes welling with tears, quickly wiped them away and cautiously asked, “Did I say something wrong?”
Michelle shook her head, “No.”
He asked again, “You don’t like the breakfast?” “No.” Michelle’s throat tightened, feeling a sharp pain. She took a long while to calm down and steady her emotions. “I just remembered my foster parents.”
Kenneth’s curiosity piqued, “Did your foster parents not treat you well?”
Michelle lowered her head in
disappointment, remaining silent. Seeing
this, Kenneth felt heartbroken.

He pulled her into his embrace and gently comforted her, “If you don’t want to talk about it, it’s okay. It’s all in the past now.”
