Chapter 14
Michelle gave a muffled mumble in response. It was all in the past now.
After resting at home for several days, Michelle felt a bit aimless. She watched Anya flying around the world on business trips and Kenneth always seemed too busy to spare any time. Michelle couldn’t help but feel a little bored.
One afternoon, as Kenneth rigidly stuck to his routine of cooking dinner for Michelle, she sneakily entered the kitchen. “Bro,” Michelle was no longer as reserved.
“Mm.” Kenneth had grown used to her presence.

In the confined space, the atmosphere became somewhat tense, both hearts beating loudly in their chests.
Michelle’s ears turned red and she hurriedly freed herself from Kenneth’s embrace, pretending nothing had happened. “Then it’s settled. Kenneth, don’t forget to wake me up for work tomorrow!” she hurriedly said.
Watching Michelle childishly run up the stairs, Kenneth’s smile morphed into something more profound. Was he just ‘brother‘ to her?
Outside the emergency room, Parker sat in silence on a chair, repeatedly thinking about all the places he and Michelle had been together, trying to guess where she might

struck by lightning, stunned for a moment before approaching to ask, “What does miscarriage mean?”
The doctor seemed somewhat displeased, “The patient has been pregnant for a month. Pregnant women in this stage are the most vulnerable. Don’t you family members know to take good care of her?”
Parker was dazed, his mind entirely
consumed by the doctor’s words, “Pregnant for a month.”
A month. The child in Janet’s belly… was his! Parker’s heart trembled and in the shocked gaze of the Smith’s couple, he fled in a panic.
No! This couldn’t be true! He had been careful, why was Janet still pregnant? This child absolutely couldn’t stay! Otherwise,

Michelle would never come back to him!
Parker felt as though his mind were spinning
in chaos. All he could think of was how to make Michelle contact him. In his daze, he found himself outside a police station.
Parker urgently explained the situation to the officers, seemingly on the verge of breaking down. As he kept speaking, he grew more disoriented, not even realizing what he was saying anymore, only begging them to help him find Michelle.
The officers, now understanding the entire story, were shaken.
