Chapter 20
Parker’s infertility made Janet’s unborn child the only successor to the Browning Family.
With this realization, her confidence grew. She stepped forward to comfort Mariska. “Mariska, don’t worry. The Browning Family won’t end, I’m still carrying Parker’s child!”
Mariska, tearful and distraught, abruptly paused at Janet’s words, then came to a sudden realization, “That’s right! The child… Janet, you must take good care of our Browning Family’s grandson!”
Feigning distress, Janet said, “But Mariska, Parker keeps delaying marrying me. I don’t mind suffering a little, but it’s so pitiful for the child in my belly to have no proper status.”

Tears brimmed in her eyes as she spoke,
making Mariska panic. The elder woman quickly seated Janet and declared, “Once that unfilial son wakes up, he’ll marry you whether he wants to or not!”
When Parker regained consciousness, his parents confined him in his room, locking the door and only opening it for meals. His enraged roars filled the room daily, but the family ignored him. Instead, they loudly and busily prepared for the wedding between Parker and Janet.
Janet, pretending to care for Parker, visited him several times to console him, but he threw her out each time. There were even moments when Parker wanted to strangle Janet and end the life of her unborn child. Terrified, Janet stopped going to him

Both the Browning and Smith families were jubilant as they eagerly anticipated the wedding, except for Parker, who grew gloomier and more irritable by the day.
Parker tried to escape by jumping out of the window but ended up breaking his leg and being dragged back by bodyguards. He also tried calling for help, only to discover that his so–called friends wouldn’t dare cross the Browning Family.
Left with no options, Parker began a hunger strike, going two days without eating or

drinking. Already gaunt from previous indulgences, he now looked skeletal, with just skin stretched over his bones.
The stench of spoiled food eventually filled the room and the Browning Family realized too late that Parker had fainted and was
unconscious. That night, they rushed him to the hospital, where he survived on glucose and little else.
Parker lay hollow–eyed on the hospital bed, staring blankly at the ceiling every day like a soulless automaton. Watching his
deteriorating state, Janet was overcome with hatred.
Hatred for Michelle, for Parker, for everyone. “Parker! Don’t be like this, okay? These past two days, our baby has been kicking. Don’t

Sunlight poured through the window, casting a warm glow on his light chestnut hair. For a moment, it looked like the picture of a happy family of three.
To an outsider, they might have seemed like the epitome of bliss.
